The best part is when she asks the obvious follow-up -- is a path to legalization "amnesty"? -- and he won't even make eye contact.
There's a spectrum of answers to this question on the right, of course:
1. Amnesty is citizenship without preconditions. That's the strictest definition, and naturally the one preferred by Beltway Republicans like Marco Rubio in his Gang of Eight days. (Marco Rubio circa 2010 had a different view.) As long as you're forcing illegals to jump through some sort of hoop, be it learning English, paying back taxes, going to the back of the line, etc, that's not amnesty -- even if you're granting them citizenship. Anything short of immediate voting rights for illegals, no questions asked, is A-OK.
2. Amnesty is citizenship. That's Jeb Bush's position, as I understand it. Jeb will legalize 'em, let 'em stay in the U.S. and work, but allowing them to become full citizens with voting rights goes too far in rewarding them for breaking our laws. The most an illegal can aspire to be is a permanent legal resident. Beyond that lies amnesty.
3. Amnesty is legalization unless you've improved security first. That's Ted Cruz's position (and Marco Rubio's current position), again as I understand it. This isn't so much a literal definition of "amnesty," which is a matter of legal status, as it is a political compromise between the two prongs of comprehensive immigration reform. Legalization (i.e. work permits) is on the table if and only if we see concrete improvements in internal enforcement first. Border hawks got suckered in 1986 by accepting promises of future border security in return for immediate grants of amnesty; despite the Gang of Eight's best efforts, they won't get suckered again.

He has and your theory is critically flawed in that ignores the Bush / Cruz split that occurred in 2005.
That’s where you and I will have to disagree, dear Jedi.
You see, Trump has said that they’ll get in line. Trump has also said that the American worker comes FIRST, before ANY newcomers.
Trump wants to fix our immigration processing process, which is a good thing. Whether or not Congress will adjust the annual quota amounts, is another issue.
With the Trump Wall and the empowered by President Trump Border Patrol doing their jobs, and the employed American’s doing the jobs American’s CAN do....I don’t see them sneaking back in, any time soon....or EVER! They can follow the same laws/processes on our books and that we used before Teddy Kennedy’s 1965 Immigration fiasco.
So, I’ll leave it at that. The only mariachi music you’ll be hearing will be played by those here LEGALLY, mi amigo :)
>>LOL, these conspiracy theories are too much. Cruz fought tooth and nail against Gang of 8 and Obamaâs amnesty, yet somehow he secretly supports it? This is absurd. Itâs also well-known Cruz was on the âwrong sideâ of the Bushies since he went against Dewhurst for Senate.
Thank you very much for the above information. I appreciate it. I am trying to figure out who really means what. I guess that shows politicians as a whole are not the most direct at saying what they mean, and people are not inclined to believe politicians are telling the truth, in general.
This next comment is not directed at you, it’s just my reaction when I hear the phrase “Conspiracy Theory”:
This phrase is routinely used by the establishment whose goal is to smear, discredit, etc. facts by mislabelling facts as Conspiracy Theories. It reminds me of the old Soviet Union’s tactics with dis-information. They used to say, whatever the official Soviet ‘line’ was, expect the truth to be the opposite.
>He has and your theory is critically flawed in that ignores the Bush / Cruz split that occurred in 2005.
Thank you for your comment. I was not aware of a Bush/Cruz split. I appreciate you providing this information.
Cruz isn’t part of the amnesty-pimping GOP establishment.
You’re not going to accomplish anything if you want to make yourself a perpetual whiner who never acknowledges progress. Tea Party candidates like Cruz have been able to knock out establishment GOP candidates in primaries and get elected. For you to then lump him in with the rest of the GOP establishment is totally counter-productive to the causes you claim to support. The only path to victory is to get conservatives elected. If you’re going to abandon them as soon as they get elected then you’re shooting yourself in the foot.
“I consider amnesty to be forgiving the law-breaking of those who come here illegally and having no consequences and in particular, a path to citizenship,”

As kryptonite is to Superman, amnesty is to Ted Cruz.
Absolute nonsense. Cruz is the definition of the conservative stalwart we’ve been fighting to get elected for years. If you want to bash the closest thing to a freeper we have in the Senate, you can find a lot of company on DU and other left-wing forums.
I like how absurdist the "nobody but Cruz!" people get when the "consistent conservative," the guy who is not merely a "campaign conservative," but a true, blue purebred conservative, is exposed as not being as perfect as he and his supporters claim.
Obviously, because it will piss us off to hear what his real position is.
Progress? BS
The only progress I have seen coming from those in the U.S. government is the steady progression of decline and the looting of middle America.
I know what Trump and Cruz are saying abiut illegal immigration.
When it comes to a mass deportation, I’m not sure if I believe that it will ever happen even if Trump becomes president.
I’m not saying it shouldn’t happen...realistically I just don’t know if it will.
If we could just do these things, it would be a vast improvement...
1. Build the wall...secure the border.
2. Make it impossible for non-citizens to get any kind of government assistance.
3. Keep businesses from hiring illegal immigrants.
4. Deport any illegal immigrants that are arrested for anything.
5. Make sure ONLY US citizens vote.
6. Stop taking Syrian refugees.
I’m sure there are other good ideas to add to those.
No, Trump is never polite. And your spouting half truths about Cruz.
Trump, a democrat in 2009.
Awe geesh....what’s the matter? Someone throws the truth at you about someone and all you can do is throw back this stuff.....go do some research and then we’ll talk....have you looked into Cruz’s wife? You know wives have a lot of influence over their husbands....
I don’t want a ‘politician’ in the White House, we’ve been there done that, and it hasn’t worked...Trump has said over and over and over again what his plan is for the people coming back into the country....why can’t you see that this is our LAST chance to save America....I don’t want people here unless they ‘LEGALLY’ come here, for me, my children and my grandchildren; I want a balanced budget, have we got that from Cruz yet? I want a strong Military, where has Cruz been on that one? I want lower taxes, where is Cruz’s tax plan? I want a good health care plan, where is Cruz on that one?
And besides, Cruz went down to the border with Beck and handled out teddy bears and soccer balls, he lives in Texas, why hasn’t he been there before then? He’s been a Senator now for THREE years, where’s the fence? Gosh, I don’t see any bill with his name on it pushing a fence thru, have you? NO....
Cruz is the perfect image of how easy it is to fool Americans due to our very pitiful discernment skills.
The fact that Cruz won't tell us what even his plans are for illegals, even while railing against amnesty and dishonestly calling Rubio a liar for telling the truth about Cruz's record, is just the tip of the iceberg.
Then we have his behavior with the Iran bill and TPA, the latter of which involved even voting against an amendment that would have given Congress power to decide who can and cannot enter into TPP (such as China), a vote that really only benefits the big corporations already planning to outsource all their manufacturing to Vietnam and other countries.
Then we see Cruz's lie about Heidi Cruz being a "conservative dissident" in the CFR, comparing her to John Bolton, even though Heidi is on record endorsing the North American Union. Even though everybody who knows her describes her as the farthest thing from a Ted Cruz Conservative (how he depicts himself, anyway).
Then there's all the lies with his father, Rafael Cruz, (who is a weirdo Dominionist, declaring how Ted Cruz is a Christian "King" whose job it is to take control over the 7 mountains of society in order to initiate an end times transfer of wealth from the wicked to the righteous) whose entire biography appears to be a collection of exaggerations and outright lies, such as his claims of being a "Bible Professor," or a "Director" of organizations of which he is the sole member of, or having witnessed the death of mighty revolutionaries-- despite being nowhere near this person at the time.
Let's face it folks. Ted Cruz is NOT the guy we think he is. He never was. He plays the game and knows how to make money off the faithful. It is the same strategy of the Benny Hinn types, or even Glenn Beck, with whom Cruz now works closely with.
The only thing those capable of common sense understand, is we are in dire need of real no BS leader who will expose and clean the corrupt betraying criminal flophouse known as D.C., from top to bottom.

It's been widely reported to be $11 million.
Cruz Pac received $36 million from pro-Amnesty rich donor Robert Mercer
I'm still waiting for the link to Robert Mercer supporting illegal immigration? Why did you say that he does??
