A graduate teaching assistant at the University of Missouri (MU) has been arrested and could be charged with child abuse after he allegedly assaulted a 14-year-old relative after seeing her in school without a headscarf.
Youssif Omar was reportedly at Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo., last Tuesday when he spotted the girl, and noticed that she wasn't wearing a hijab, a traditional headscarf worn by many Muslim women and that many believers regard as a religious obligation.
According to a Columbia police representative who spoke with the Columbia Daily Tribune, Omar reacted violently when he saw the relative without her head covered, slapping her, grabbing her by the hair and dragging her down a flight of stairs and out to his car.
After the incident was reported, Columbia police arrested Omar at his home Wednesday night on suspicion of felony child abuse. Omar was released after posting a bond of $4,500.
It's not clear whether the girl, whom police have not named, is Omar's daughter or some other relation.
Notably, according to Omar's LinkedIn page, he currently works as an assistant professor at the University of Missouri. He also is managing editor of MU's undergraduate writing journal Artifacts and works in the university bookstore. Prior to coming to America, Omar says he was the head of the University of Benghazi's English department in Libya.
Omar may be inflating his credentials somewhat, though. He doesn't appear in MU's faculty directory as a professor, and instead pops up as a graduate teaching assistant in Arabic.
Omar isn't the first Missouri professor to grab unwelcome headlines in November. Three weeks ago, professor Melissa Click caused a national outrage when she attempted to rouse a mob to attack a student journalist trying to cover the school's Concerned Student 1950 protests. Click has apologized and resigned a courtesy post she held with MU's journalism school, but she remains a professor at the school.
I was afraid something like this would happen as a result of President Obama’s policies.
“Prior to coming to America, Omar says he was the head of the University of Benghazi’s English department in Libya.”
Mizzou sure knows how to pick quality teachers. Nothing like hiring ME crap to indoctrinate our young! I’m waiting for the Mizzou “faculty” to head on down to the Columbia PD for a protest.
Just to be clear... This is not an uneducated neanderthal from Syria, it’s a MODERN Muslim cretin.
Well he didn’t “honor” kill her so there’s a plus./s
The Trial of the Tent Maker.
Felony child abuse, and he’s released on that paltry a bond?! I think I’d have put the girl into protective custody... and if this is the family mentality, maybe order her removed from the home permanently. She could already be dead by now.
Mizzou seems to be nothing but freaks, racists, and retards.
Muslims and Liberals - so much in common. Violent thugs all.
Yeah but they have a good football team. No, wait.
The absurd alliance of secular liberalism and stone-age islamicism is always both comic and tragic.
We really need this garbage here.
As a female, I wouldn’t take a course under a Muslim. I would fear how he would grade a female
The baby boomers should not have forced everyone to go to school.
So this is a bias incident right?
This poor girl is at risk and should have protection. She should be put on immigration warning if some tries to take her out of the country. What was this guy doing inside the HS? The school district is responsible if he removed her.
“Youssif Omar was reportedly at Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo., last Tuesday when he spotted the girl, and noticed that she wasn’t wearing a hijab, a traditional headscarf worn by many Muslim women and that many believers regard as a religious obligation.”
Notice how they say that “believers regard as a religious obligation” meaning that it isn’t really a religious obligation set in stone. They just say it is.
They would look at you in disgust for showing your skin and daring to be in the class to start with.
And this violent child-abuser gets fired in 3...2...When?
