Your room name is hurting people.
According to a recent student op ed, a bro-dude calling a room in his house a âman caveâ is not just obnoxious but truly harmful to women and a âdisgusting patriarchal myth.â
âWhile I think itâs perfectly acceptable, and even healthy, to have separate spaces where one can enjoy time alone, the gendered language around âman caveâ is pretty gross,â Kalani Ruidas writes in a piece for Golden Gate Xpress, San Francisco State Universityâs official student newspaper.
Lest you think that what a dude decides to call a room in his own house isnât hurting anyone, Ruidas wants you to know that the idea of a âman caveâ amounts to a âpassive dig at femininityâ â yes, the very idea of femininity! â because itâs like saying that âwomen are such a burden that theyâre restricted from that zone.â
(Of course, some people might think that some rooms are called âman cavesâ just because theyâre filled with traditionally âman-likeâ things. However, intelligent people know that this could not be the case because gender roles obviously do not exist.)
âTheyâre the makings of a shrine to big business that has man-cavers nostalgic for a time when they were happy . . . guys should get over the feudalistic idea of a man cave allowing them to be the âlord of their manorâ in a room they can call their own,â Ruidas explains in her piece, which is titled âMan Caves Perpetuate Patriarchy.â
In addition to perpetuating patriarchy, Ruidas argues, âman cavesâ can also make racism worse . . . because âa man cave is a place where a man devolves into a grunting subhuman that leaves sexist and racist comments on message boards

Rich Corinthian leather!
"Safe Space for Heterosexually Afflicted Penile-Americans."
I suppose they could call it “my personal safe space.”
Yep, some sort of affliction would have to be claimed, but it still probably wouldn't work in today's lunatic society.
I’m offended at your offense!
Who wins?
Man cave is actually derogatory towards men but we we men can take a little bit of needling unlike thin-skinned, whiny feminists.
Real men donât have âman cavesâ
âmenâ who have man caves are just succumbing to an overbearing wife who wants to extend her influence over him by outlining where he must go.
She sends the kids to their rooms, her husband to his âman caveâ, and then she can continue to run the household without the distractions of âthose unruly kids and husbandâ.
You would think feminists would be happy if men just stayed in their caves and didn’t come out!
She’s mad because no one wants her man cave.
My whole house is a man cave.
The sign on the door says No Kalanis Allowed.
Secure, well adjusted, women have no problem with trivial matters like this.
Excellent point. Maybe call it the “throne room” instead.
I’ve been offended by the term “beauty parlor” myself....
Perhaps she would prefer we call them “Left-Wing-Bitch-Free Safety-Zones”....
They’re just angry that they can’t get the location of all of them and destroy them. They’ve got to make everyone as absolutely miserable as they are.
Thank you. Let someone else reside underground and call it “the basement”.
This struck me as hilarious. I have an office where I write. It's my "man cave," even though I don't use the term. The adjacent room is my wife's sewing room. It's her "woman cave." We're both happy with the arrangement.
I would suggest the phrase BITCH Writer for the chick writing this drivel
That’s not funny.
