Faculty at the University of California-Merced reportedly held a “teach-in†Monday night to help students better understand the motives of 18-year-old Faisal Mohammad, who earlier this month wounded four people with a hunting knife before being killed by campus police.
The conservative college news website The College Fixreported that the teach-in was “conspicuously†devoid of discussions of radical Islam, and instead “delved into topics such as how society’s notions of masculinity pressure men.â€
Mohammad, a freshman studying computer science at UC Merced, was found to have a printout image of the Islamic State flag alongside a handwritten manifesto with detailed instructions to behead students and multiple reminders to “praise Allah.†Still, investigators have maintained there is no indication that he had any terrorist ties.
Monday’s teach-in, titled “Don’t Turn Our Tragedy Into Hate,†was hosted by the critical race and ethnic studies faculty, The College Fix reported.
One speaker during the panel discussion appeared to blame Mohammad’s anger on societal gender norms.
“Anger, that is really what we think about when we think about emotional men,†she reportedly said. “They are subject to social sanctions if they deviate from masculinity. If you are perceived as failing at it, you are subject to being called a fag, a pussy, a wimp, pretty much what women are, right?â€
“So when you have this limited ability to sort of express your emotions and possible feelings of emasculation, of low self esteem, how do you really [deal with] that? A lot of times they … engage in violence. They need to compensate for their loss of masculinity in the most manly way they have access to, and unfortunately, a lot of times that’s violence.â€

I’ve been hoping for this also, but the bar is getting lower all of the time and still not quite enough “critical mass” to send a message.

The “teach in” was probably loaded with the SWP (stupid white people) crowd.
One of my daughter’s college housemates was a certified lunatic who did her master’s work on the injustices of the penal system. As expected, all of those nice people in prison were simply victims of political and socialinjustice and all were innocent. She gave the commencement address and her Mom & Dad were next to us, beaming at their daughter’s “research.” I edged my way to the far end of the crowd to avoid having to hear any more of her lame excuses for the criminals in prison.
Why do they do that? Who knows? How can any collection of humans be so totally devoid of any common sense and so immune to cause/effect and empirical data? Their neurons have to be wired in some weird fashion is all I can conclude. Maybe they were all dropped on their heads as babies.

IIRC, regarding the study group...one report I read stated that Faisal was making advances at a female in the group. She was the girlfriend of another male in the study group. Together with her boyfriend they wanted Faisal separated from the study group because he wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer.
I don’t have the link to that story, sorry, but I believe it was in a paper local to the incident.
Unbelievable. While Muslims preach they want to kill us, and they do, the LW tells Muslims that they: 1. Aren’t Muslims and 2. They are not really killers, and 3. Islm teaches peace. Something profound has happened, that is endangering the whole human race. Huge percentages of people aren't acting human anymore.
Self preservation, is the most basic of instincts, and these kids have sworn off it as a badge of honor.
They are taught there there is no right answer. Everyone’s outlook must be evaluated to be as good as your own.
Why it’s prejudiced to think your view is solid. It’s just your views after all. Terrorists have views too, and whose to say their views are wrong.
