On Saturday evening, Dov Bergwerk arrived at the Avis branch on West 76th Street and Broadway. Accompanied by his wife Ruth, the Bergwerks were planning to join friends for dinner in Westchester. Mr. Bergwerk, a senior vice president and general corporate counsel at the Israeli pharmaceutical giant Teva, got out his driver's license, reservation number and "Wizard" loyalty card - he's rented from Avis dozens of times before - and anticipated the usual smooth transition into a nondescript mid-sized sedan.
That's when the trouble started.

I like to think Freepers are a cut above the rest of the population, it’s very obvious from this thread that many aren’t.
With the exception of machogirl in post 8, everyone has been as quick as any Liberal condemning a conservative with their condemnation of Avis.

If you ever have a fender bender with a woman that looks like Schamoo here, expect your insurance company to call you two months later to tell you she went to a chiropractor and is now filing suit for the maximum coverage of your policy.
They will give Shamoo $10,000 to go away and then raise your rates. Civilized people will rejoice the world over when they are no longer forced to share land with baboons like her.
I as well as quite a few people here have sent AVIS a protest letter and I’ve canceled my account.
That response on FB was from the “JV team”. Must be interns. I can’t imagine a company in this AGE of social media posting that response.
We occasionally rent for business and personal from Avis as there happens to be an office convenient to us.
In the future we will do a little extra driving to avoid them.
I will also contact the main Avis office. They have a Twitter page and I notice already there are negative comments. They posted an excuse about this incident as though they are the victim.
Will check Facebook as well.

I won’t rent from Avis again if the allegations turn out to be true. Avis can go to Hell.
I have rented a car at a foreign avis location (years ago) and they asked for my passport — a US drivers license or company card wasn’t enough.
This Israeli tried to rent a car in another country without providing a passport, only giving a foreign drivers license.
It sounds possible that the employee was following company policy.
According to the response from the company it sounds like it.

Then Avis needs to die. The marketplace should take care of that.

Bye bye Avis. How much rental car business will they also lose from TEVA. Word gets out.
Is Avis afraid to do anything due to fear of a “discrimination” lawsuit?

That Israeli customer is a corporate executive who might have some say in ending a lot of corporate travel business with Avis. If Avis doesn’t care about losing a major customer, then Avis needs to die in the marketplace.
When I have looked on American Airlines FB, their Customer service responses on FB were along the lines of, ‘thank you for your concern, please message @(american airlines), etc.
Reading their FB post, I think that they started out ok defending their policy, BUT the end of their post was, very unfortunate.

Based on the sketchy evidence we have, I’m waiting, but standing on the Avis side.
For all we know, this could be an Israeli of Palestinian parents.
