Warning From Ted Cruz: Far Too Many Republicans Are Eager To Drag U.S. Into Syria's Civil War
The Blaze ^ | 11/18/2015 | Leigh Munell

Putting U.S. troops on the ground in Syria to counter the Islamic State and take on Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime would be a mistake, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Wednesday.

"I don't believe the answer is sending boots on the ground to Syria," the Republican candidate for president told reporters in Washington. "President Obama , and I think far too many Republicans , are eager to get us in the middle of an internecine civil war in Syria. We don't have a dog in that fight."

Assad is a "monster" who has murdered women and children and gassed his own citizens, Cruz said, but handing the country over to warring extremist factions would be worse.

"The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend," he said. "And toppling Assad, if it results in radical Islamic terrorists taking over Syria, if it results in Al Qaeda or Al Nusra or ISIS taking over all of Syria, that would be a catastrophic mistake."

Some Republican candidates, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, have said they would support putting U.S. boots on the ground in Syria.

You know, that Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii... I can't remember her name, but she's one of the few that doesn't make me want to throw a whiskey bottle through the TV...

Anyway, she made a good point on some show last night. Obama is illegally using the military to try to topple the Assad regime.

Congress hasn't declared war on Syria.

Of course we shouldn’t involve ourselves in a civil war. But If ISIS is threatening our country then we should remove the threat.

Forget about boots on the ground "over there".

Syria's civil war is coming here.

The issue isn’t whether or not we should be involved in Syria. The issue is that we are on the wrong side in Syria.

Hmmm.... Yeah, let’s wait until ISIS attacks us on our homeland first, then we will think about it.

We do need to run ISIS out of Iraq. In Syria, let them and Assad kill each other.

We have plenty of Mexican and South American “refugees” We don’t need any more immigrants. Unless you are rich and need folks to do landscaping and clean the pool for minimum wage.

This really is not àll that complicated. ISIS, Al Qaeda, Iran are all proximate enemies. Ideally the Sunni nuts and shia nuts kill each other but right now it is the Sunni nuts reaching out to kill us and our allies. So we should kill as many as we can whenever we can.

Assad is a "monster" who has murdered women and children and gassed his own citizens

OK. I don't believe this is true; the accusation came from Obama and there hasn't been yet any independent confirmation. Both logic and event sequence point to the Arab Spring "Freedom Fighters" of the Muslim Brotherhood which include, among others, such wonderful liberators as Al Qaeda and ISIS. There just was nothing for Assad to gain by gassing the area and the political cost was staggering.

There's more to cast doubt on the commonly accepted narrative but it can't be ignored that the Assad family protected the Christian majority for generations while the first act of the rebels was to wipe them out which buys Assad a lot of good will and benefit of the doubt in my book...if not Obama's.

.

Ted Cruz vs. Obama for 30 minutes in a nationally televised debate over the Syrian Refugees

... Two moderators, Stephanopolus and Mark Levin ... just to be fair ...

Ted Cruz wins the GOP nomination and November 2016 election.

That televised event is the equivalent of a $ 750 million ad campaign ...

.

I agree with staying out of Syria. However I believe the US needs to go back into Iraq, reestablish relationshisp with the various tribes and Kurds regardless of what the Iraqi government says, although I think they will welcome such a move. Clear out Iraq, using Iraqi troops as much as possible and then keep a substantial force to keep Iraq free of ISIS and AQ. Many in Iraq will welcome the US. Keep the troops there as we did in Europe, Japan and Korea after WWII. The American GI’s kept those areas free for decades.
