BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com / AP) - Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker says he's opposed to allowing more Syrian refugees into Massachusetts in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Paris.
The Republican said Monday the safety and security of the people of Massachusetts are his first priority and he would have to know a lot more about the federal government's refugee vetting process before allowing them into the state.
"I would certainly say no until I know a lot more than I know now," Baker said.
Democratic Boston Mayor Marty Walsh echoed Baker, saying he also wants to know more about how the federal government screens refugees.
"We have yet to receive guidelines from the federal or state government on how they will move forward, however should we be told that Boston is accepting refugees, we will work with our partners at the federal, state and local levels to ensure the safety of Boston residents," Walsh said.
Baker and Walsh said they have had no conversations with federal officials since the attacks.
"We would have to be very cautious about accepting folks without knowing a lot more about the federal government's plan looks like," Baker told FOX25.
Several governors are temporarily halting efforts to allow Syrian refugees into their states responding to heightened concerns that terrorists might use the refugees as cover to sneak across borders.
Sanity in Massachusetts. Who’d a thunk it.
One call from the Boss in DC and he will change his tune..............
So far, these are the states who have refused refugees. Let me know if there are others:
Illinois
Texas
Arkansas
Alabama
Michigan
Indiana
Massachusetts
Arizona
Louisiana
The same vetting process they used for the Tsarniev family- the bunch of them.
Good for RINO Charlie. You can be sure Coupe Deval is rolling over in his bed.
A FoxNashville online poll is 85% in favor of halting relocation of Syrian refugees in Tennessee. No word from the governor yet.
This is a useless statement.
FedGov has contracted with Catholic Charities and a couple other like organizations to receive and move “refugees”. How does a governor’s words stop these folks from putting refugees on a bus and driving them to a “refugee center” run by one of these organizations?
I recall the flood of Central American youth a year or so ago, and that continued in spite of words many governors and school districts said.
Amazing. So far it seems like only states with Republican Governors are banning these disciples of Satan from our shores?

He at least has a working brain.
Maybe they’ll all fit on the south side of Chicago?
WOW. When liberal Massachusetts is doing it, can Maryland be far behind?
California won’t budge tho.
We need to do this here.

I almost Fell out of my Chair!
Marty! Don't you trust the federal government? They will have to fill out detailed questionnaires from two different federal agencies.
It is possible that the agencies might even compare the answers. Under penalties of perjury, they will have to certify they are not terrorists.
Thanks for post and the list is growing! Obama is completely out of control. He’s more upset about this than our National Security and repeatedly saying we will take refugees.
The Tsarnov Brothers blowing up the Boston Marathon finish line? That robbery of weapons from a military facility in Worcester last night? One of the 911 planes left from Logan. I'm surprised it took this long.
FWIW, MA (outside of the loony Boston-based and college campus elitists) has been fed up with illegals for at least ten years.
