As the Republican candidates for President get ready for their next debate tonight, the potential 2016 GOP voters continue to express their support for non-traditional candidates. Businessman Donald Trump and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson maintain their lead in the latest Economist/YouGov Poll as the top choices of registered voters who identify as Republicans. Carson pulls even with Trump when Republican voters name their second choice: just about four in ten say each man is their first or second choice.

Cheer up, Jeb! You are still ahead of Linda Graham.
It would seem that the top four, Trump, Carson, Rubio and Cruz are the only ones who should be in the next debate.
No reason for Bush and the others to be at the adult table n
Good news. Right in line with Morning Consult. I love these surveys including 2nd choices which are meaningless at this point. Most people haven’t even firmed support for their first choice let alone thought about a second choice. The media keeps trying to find a reason to minimize Trump’s support.
What a title. Trump's at 32% and Uncle Ben's at 18% but they say Trump and Carson lead! LOL!
Good riddance.

Yep. Some folks trying to keep Carson in the game. This is only an effort to undermine Trump.

I think it hurts them big time to admit that Trump is that far ahead in their poll.
The three major networks in their morning shows all failed to mention Cruz’ name. Believe me, that was not an accident.
Combining 1st & 2nd choice PUTS CRUZ IN 3RD PLACE! Does Cruz know exactly what he's doing or not?
I am surprised that Christie is not ahead of Bush. The same goes for Fiorina. They’d both be better candidates than Senior Dollar Guacamole bowl.
CORRECTION: My math was wrong! Scratch my last post.
Trump obviously looks to be the favorite. Hate that I am going to have to hold my nose and vote for the 3rd consecutive POTUS race.
Agreed. In the end, I still think it will be between Cruz and Rubio. A Cuban cage match.
And in range of Linda Lovelace?
Only four in double digits as first choice, and exactly the same four pulling in with over 25% as first-or-second choice. Plainly the next debate should just be Trump, Carson, Rubio and Cruz.
If you want real change in Washington there are only two choices. Trump and Cruz. Otherwise the Karl Rove types remain in power. I would like to see a Trump/Cruz ticket.
America is saying “Just GO AWAY, GOPe!”
There is about 27% still favoring the PeeWees. Where will those people go? My guess is very little will move to Trump (they’re with the PeeWees because they don’t like Trump, and they are obviously not into the “not another politician” meme, because they are already supporting “politicians.”). I’m guessing Cruz and Rubio will pickup almost all of that, though a bit of Rand’s support might go to Trump.
Seriously, will the Bush-Kasich-Christie-Fiorina-Santorum grouping go to Trump? Highly unlikely. Carson has a better shot at it, but I don’t think he’ll get much either.
And if Carson flags, Trump will have a hard time picking up that vote. Carson gets a lot of support because of personality (some people, yes in the GOP, are sick of bickering and are eager for a soft-voiced candidate (and there’s no way Trump gets that vote).
