Donald Trump Calls Controversy Swirling Around Ben Carson 'Very Strange'

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called the controversy swirling around his rival Ben Carson "very strange" Sunday, questioning stories Carson has told that have since been scrutinized.

Trump has questioned Carson several times about a childhood story in his autobiography "Gifted Hands" in which Carson described once trying to stab a friend or relative. He also questioned a story Carson has told about hitting his mother with a hammer.

“It's a strange situation when you talk about hitting your mother on the head with the hammer," Trump said on ABC's "This Week." "It's a weird deal going on and I hope it all works out because I don’t want to see Ben have problems over this stuff.”

On the campaign trail and in "Gifted Hands," Carson describes his teenage self as rage-filled and violent. But recent reports have questioned elements of that narrative and in new interviews, friends, neighbors and classmates from his childhood said the young man Carson describes is a far cry from the one they knew.

“I guess a book was written … before he was in politics, but he said he has 'pathological disease' in the book,” said Trump. “That's a very serious problem because that's not something that's cured. That's a very serious thing you have to live with.”

Trump is no stranger to these kind of accusations. He has been questioned about his actual worth, and in his own book “The Art of The Deal,” he wrote, “A little hyperbole never hurt." But when pressed about his exaggerations, he turned the conversation back to Carson.

I’m not taking anything away from his comebacks but when a candidate for office has admitted under oath to exaggerating his the value of his properties in order to avoid “saying anything negative” and lying about his net worth because “everyone does” it should be a relevant piece of information. It is difficult for me at least to imagine Trump making hard, principled but unpopular decisions based on ideological conviction that would have the effect of potentially damaging his empire and brand name.

1. Trump was a democrat. False assertion.

Another Trumpet lie. It is well documented that Trump registered as a Democrat in August 2001- September 2009.

Nice try.

Thanks for playing. You have proven yourself to be a worthy Trumpet koolaid drinker who doesn’t care that the Donald may be buying the presidency.

There were a lot of us who were fooled by W being a real conservative back in 2000. I am sure Ted Cruz was too. Funny the same slimey family is now slamming him. No more Bushes..... Not now.....not ever.

Dr. Carson’s invitation was with the provision that he endorsed statehood for Puerto Rico. While they can’t vote, they do send delegates and are he nomination process.

I think it depends on who you hit with a hammer. A certain minority leader in the Senate . . .

These hits are not my problem with Ben Carson as Presidential candidate. The fact that he has not provided any evidence of the slightest knowledge of economics, finance, world affairs, or how government works is.

Carson had the oo to say he's not the one who has to prove his statements. Well, then who the hell is??

As far as the scholarship bit....he didn't meet Westmoreland (and it was probably in a line) until beyond the deadline for beginning any process toward West Point.

In fact, he likely had already made application to Yale where he apparently had an in. Who puts in an application to one school?

I don't agree with his initial tweet where he accepted the lie, but he immediately backed off and began attacking the "deceitful" media.

Probably his ego, but Trump does need to understand that EVEN WHEN THE DRIVE-BYS FIND YOU "LESS REPREHENSIBLE" (Rubio, Bush) they will still lie because of the R next to your name. He needs to adopt the Cruz approach that an attack on one is an attack in all and "I can handle my own attacks if I need to launch them."

Depends on what you are counting....liquid worth?

Don't forget, a lot of his wealth has been turned over to his children.

He gave money to Hillary for business reason; that's very different from Carson claiming that he "has the same goals ad Al Sharpton" !

I have a solution to this matter....... Support Ted Cruz!!!!!!!

Another poor black kid....One of our local attorneys is black, quite elegant, handsome and a great client. He's about 75 now.

He told me the story of when he applied to Georgetown circa 1960. He didn't hear from them after applying and decided to take a trip to the University. He made an appointment and sat down with a counselor. Within a few days, he received a notice that he had been accepted.

I give him a lot of credit...no one pulled strings...he took the initiative. He's an amazing man and I can assure you that he never took a hammer to his mother or knifed a friend.

“Dr. Carson is blaming practices of the media when they’re actually doing something right, striving for accuracy, how ironic.”

I was having an argument on this over the weekend with a Carson supporter. The bottom line was the story was well researched and well sourced (sounded like the reporter did some serious checking, from every angle, regarding West Point and the General) and just because it didn’t end well for Carson DOES NOT make it a hit piece.

And while all of us here would have loved to see some digging into Obama’s past back in 2007/2008, the bottom line is that the media was very clear there - if McCain wouldn’t bring it up, neither would the media. If we don’t like that, then perhaps we should try to find a way for OUR PEOPLE to populate the media - or we run a better candidate (like Trump). It is UNREASONABLE for any Republican to expect an Obama-style free pass from the media. Perhaps Carson thought being black would help (just speculating)...if so, he should have remembered (or studied) what was done to Clarence Thomas.

“...Trumpet koolaid drinker who doesn’t care that the Donald may be buying the presidency.”

Who is he buying it from? Is your man Cruz trying to the buy the presidency, or is he being bought by his billionaire backers?

Look into it yourself. If Trump were arguing facts and figures that would be one thing but when complains about feeling “embarrassed” by a lower number like voters aren’t going to like him as much with only 4 billion in the bank that is a total non starter for me.
