Ben Carson will endorse statehood for Puerto Rico tomorrow at an event with Ricky Rosello, a gubernatorial candidate for the pro-statehood party on the island, according to a source close to Rosello's campaign.
The source said the condition for Carson speaking at the event was that he come out for statehood. A request for comment from Carson's campaign on the endorsement was not immediately returned.
The issue of statehood for Puerto Rico, a commonwealth of the United States, does not neatly breakdown along traditional Democrat and Republican lines on the island, which is also dealing with a financial and health care crisis.
Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio have previously said they support statehood if Puerto Ricans vote for it. Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush have endorsed bankruptcy protections for the island, but Rubio does not.

Thank you for the links. Sounds like there is more than one source for this story. Looking worse and worse for Carson as the days go by.
haha well, I found some pro faggot-marriage freepers so I;m not surprised
Puerto Rico Ping! Please Freepmail me if you want on or off the list.
They'll immediately drop the violence-and-stabbing stuff.....and the West-Point-and-lying stuff.....and they'll hoist Gentle Ben back onto the numero-uno, Olympic-gold pedestal.
He'll be on Telemundo tomorrow and every day this coming week.
....and Hillary and the socialist-slash-communist will have multiple Gorbasms!
Ole!
Leni
I count that as TWO SENATORS and about 5 REPS...ALL DEMOCRATS, without a doubt.
Are there people here that STILL think Carson IS NOT a Democrat plant?
OK, then which is it. FUBC or ITTFUBC...different meanings, yes?
Yup, that is what it would amount to.
No thanks.
Such a shame after saving so many white folks back in the 60’s. Carson’s List, if you will.
That's the best idea here yet.
For decades the statehood issue's been polarized on the island /w 49% in favor, 49% against, and 2% for idependance. This kind of move by Carson would be a political loss, and worse yet if he ever followed thru on it in a couple years we'd have PR changing their minds and demanding secession! Statehood is not for a slim majority --like Obamacare.
yes
Wow. Ben, I greatly admire you for your achievements. But this is not good.
He’s toast.
K......rofl
PR falls between CT and IA in population, so you’re looking at 7 EVs (5 Reps)
Louisiana supports this... they will no longer be at the bottom on national rankings.
PR needs to be CUT LOOSE.
It is a relic of an unjust war and a pathetic attempt to become an “empire”. All PR has done is suck off of the taxpayers of the U.S.. Basically all of the trappings of a nation, with none of the responsibilities.
Give them to Canada. They’ve wanted an Caribbean territory for decades. They will love the added “diversity”.
Question 1 asked if they wanted to continue the current territorial status. 46% voted yes and 54% voted no.
Question 2 offered three alternatives: statehood, free association, and independence. Statehood won with 61% of the vote.
But not everyone who voted on question 1 voted on question 2. So even though statehood won on question 2, less than half the voters favored statehood in the referendum.
The single best destiny for Puerto Rico would be as a state within the United States of the Caribbean, a nation whose natural capital would be Havana. That would require the Castro brothers to shuffle off their mortal coils.
Ben’s last gasp! He’s history, outdoing Herman Cain.
Dumb progressive/commie proposal.
