No surprise here: Donald Trump was the first to react to news Friday that Ben Carson was never offered admission at West Point, despite his past claims that he was offered a scholarship to the military academy.
"WOW, one of the many lies by Ben Carson! Big story," Trump tweeted, the latest in a string of attacks on Carson by the business mogul.

“Shove it, trump.”
You hate Trump. Who would listen to anything you say about Trump. You hate him.
Ditto what you said.
I think I'll wait until the dust settles and hear what Carson him self has to say about this.
Why any one let alone a FReeper would jump on a Politico story is beyond me.....Trump too.
This type of attacking may have worked for Jebby, because not too many people like him very much. It may work against Rubio as well.
Carson however has a legacy as a very successful AA doctor, who has spent a career helping the weakest amongst us.
This might get more sympathy votes for Carson. The big bad billionaire is teaming up with the despicable lefty media, bullying him and ruining his reputation.
In this case, I say "Go Trump Go!"
That “?” was a smart smart way to end that tweet.
Trump’s playing right into their hands. They put Carson #1 so Trump would attack him and now he has.
Politico might even be in on it to get Trump to jump at headlines. I thought Trump was smarter than this.
Yeah.....actually, it kinds of looks that way. In his actual book, Carson said he was “offered a full scholarship to West Point.” He doesn’t say he applied to or was accepted to West Point.
What is it about “I got a full scholarship to West Point” that you don’t think is a bald faced lie?
Not impressed Donald. Stay off of your computer.
Carson did not tell a big lie did he?. He just did some conflating of a truth: he would have easily gained entry at West Point due to his success in the ROTC. That’s my understanding.
So this is a hit piece.
Question then is, “Did the Carson campaign *really* admit that the story was false?”
If so, then:
1) What was the *actual wording* that the campaign used in the email?
2) Why would they even admit to anything being false, if they did, instead of telling Politico to stuff themselves?
If not, then:
1) Does the Carson campaign have the email trail (hopefully they save those sorts of things) both of what Politico wrote to them, and how they *actually* responded?
It’d be interesting to see Carson’s campaign make all of that public.
IF you guys are going to turn this all around on Trump. Carson left the impression that he was officially “accepted” to West Point, but what it looks like someone in the military possibly close to General Westmoreland who said that Carson should pursue an appointment to the Academy and that he would get accepted. ...It is an embellishment.
I think that's the point most are missing. They want to blame Politico (understandably) but this has nothing to do with Politico, ultimately.
Oh well I give up. I'm going to let this play out and see where it goes by Monday. If people want to back a candidate who is known to have embellished his life story at least once (this time), I can't stop them.
Have a grrrreat weekend everybody!
I would have to read those exact words in his book myself to raise an eyebrow. If anyone here has his book, please scan and post that page so we can see for ourselves. Until then, I’m skeptical.
Where did he leave the impression that he was “officially accepted to West Point”?
If you can, please scan and post that page. We all need to read and decide for ourselves.
