Kraft Heinz To Close Seven Plants, Cut 2,600 Jobs Thu, 11/05/2015 - 9:37am Andy Szal, Digital Reporter

Kraft Heinz on Wednesday announced that it will close seven facilities and cut 2,600 jobs as part of its continued efforts to reduce costs.

The plan includes shuttering the nearly century-old Oscar Mayer plant in Madison, Wisconsin, which houses the company's U.S. meats business.

The meats operation will instead move to Chicago along with about 250 of the plant's workforce of more than 1,000.

Kraft Heinz will move its Illinois office from the former Kraft headquarters in suburban Northfield to downtown Chicago early next year; it will also maintain a second headquarters in Heinz's native Pittsburgh.

The other six cities with plants on the chopping block include: Fullerton and San Leandro, California; Federalsburg, Maryland; Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania; Campbell, New York; and St. Marys, Ontario.

“Our decision to consolidate manufacturing across the Kraft Heinz North American network is a critical step in our plan to eliminate excess capacity and reduce operational redundancies for the new combined company,” said Michael Mullen, the company's senior vice president of corporate and government affairs.

Heinz and Kraft merged this summer and company officials promptly began cost-cutting measures that mirrored Heinz's 2013 acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital.

The company announced 2,500 layoffs in the U.S. and Canada in August, including about 700 at the Northfield headquarters.

The plant closings announced this week are expected to take effect over the next 12 to 24 months.

Two comments on MN:

They left out the part where they were eliminating a bunch of their customer base as well. Consolidation in Chicago won't bring more customers.

The Snowman • 11 hours ago They also are planning to close the Davenport Iowa plant as well BUT they want to build a new $203 million dollar state of the art plant if the city and state will give them some economic incentives but because of the new plant they will need only 475 employees instead of the now 1,414 employees. So basically they are saying bend over and give so you can keep 1/3 of your citizens there jobs so they can pay taxes so we don't have to.

The economy is booming! There is a chicken in every pot!

If we can add some more debt we will really be able to make everyone wealthy!

We had a Heinz plant about 1/2 mile from my house in the Pocatello area. Heinz announced a closure and Amy's snapped up the property. The signage changed. The products changed. Most of the employees are still employed. Fine by me. Amy's makes stuff I like eat. Aside from ketchup and mustard, I don't buy many other Heinz products.

Earlier this year, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said here ==> ( http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2015/07/chicago-mayor-rahm-emanuel-city-jobs-internships-will-go-to-illegal-aliens/ ) that "sanctuary city" Chicago was going to start giving city jobs and internships to illegal aliens.

Kraft Heinz probably wants to use Chicago as a conduit for cheap illegal alien factory labor.

Aside from ketchup and mustard, I don't buy many other Heinz products.

The most popular brand of Mustard is French's anyway - made by Reckitt Benckiser.

Can someone explain to me what the fascination is with putting your corporate headquarters in downtown Chicago?

I can't imagine (well NYNY) a worst place to run your business from.

Chicago is the epicenter of evil for Obama-age string-pulling globalist plutocrats. It’s the black hole of corruption that spawned Alinsky and Jarrett and a million stolen elections. Any world class establishmentarian corporation with global ambition would be foolish not to build it’s HQ there.

Well, I stopped buying Kraft products a number of years ago when I learned they used fetal stem cells in their research and development.

To the best of my knowledge, they still do. They need to either stop or go out of business.

I have a huge shelf of different mustard products. French's, Heinz and many others. Delightful on a barbecued polish sausage.

She has no interest in Heinz. Kraft bought Heinz years ago.
