From coast to coast, conservatives score huge victories in off-year elections
The Washington Post ^ | Novermber 4, 2015 | James Hohmann

Posted on 11/04/2015 8:24:22 AM PST by fifedom

Just like the midterms one year ago, it was another awful night for Democrats. Republican Matt Bevin won a big upset in the Kentucky governors race. Democrats failed to pick up Virginias state Senate. Houstons Equal Rights Ordinance, designed to protect the rights of gay citizens and others, failed by a wide margin. Ohio rejected marijuana legalization by a two-to-one margin. Even in San Francisco, the sheriff who steadfastly defended the citys sanctuary city policy went down.

KY and MS are fairly Republican these days, so no surprises there.

Bevin’s victory was no sure thing. Look at this other story from the WaPo. The establishment did not support him just like Cuccinelli in VA last year but Bevin won anyway. This was a HUGE victory for the good guys.

“Matt Bevin, the Republican nominee in the Kentucky governor’s race, wasn’t a very good candidate. By all accounts, he was standoffish and ill at ease on the campaign trail, and inconsistent — to put it nicely — when it came to policy. The Republican Governors Association, frustrated with Bevin and his campaign, pulled its advertising from the state.”

How long before the nay-sayers on this website claim that this does not matter and that the voters should have stayed at home?

As we've seen, winning the elections doesn't mean anything. It's what the newly elected do with that win that matters. Reserve your celebrating for after these officials actually do something conservative while in office.

And in Tucson every bond issue was voted down but every DemocRAT was reelected to the city council, as was the mayor. So the voters are tired of high taxes yet they reelect every DemocRAT. Do these simpleton idiots not see the correlation between DemocRATS and high taxes?!

The RATS in Tucson have forced through city-wide elections so their candidates get all the illegals’ votes from the barrio in the southern region of town and they sweep the elections. On the bonds, getting the illegals to vote for them was probably too complex so sanity prevailed.

This author is really upset about what happened last night but must keep the propaganda going that we are all gonna be so sorry for electing all those republicans.

I think the fact that Bevin won the GOP nomination made the difference. Obamacare has proven to be an enormous disaster in KY (in the whole country actually) and I think the Republican candidate was going to win no matter what in KY.

Further, Bevin made a name for himself in his race against McConnell. While he never stood much of a chance against the entrenched and powerful McConnell, I think it gave him enough of a profile to try again. And this time he won.

In MS, I don’t think we have seen the last of McDaniel. I think he, too, will make a comeback.

It is always difficult to unseat entrenched and well financed incumbents-—no matter what party they’re in.

As someone just said, low-information voters in a few states didn’t even know there was an election on Nov. 3, 2015.

Hey, GOPe, the biggest tent is filled with ANGRY voters. What are you going to offer them in ‘16? Another PC correct milquetoast candidate? If so, he will keep up the Republican losing streak.

Nope, I will celebrate now. As they say in math, winning the election is a necessary but not sufficient condition. If the RATS had won, there would be no hope. With the Pubbies we have a chance so I will take that and continue to fight.

Nope, if Bush were the R candidate, I simply would not vote. I’ll fill out the rest of the ballot, but there ain’t no way I’d ever vote for Jeb. I don’t want that on my conscience.

Me too! No Jebbie EVER!

Unfortunately, it was a great day for Democrats in PA.

It doesn’t look good for Republicans in 2016.

“...Obama is way beyond a socialist and seems determined to take us down as a country.”

Massive understatement. He is an America-hating Marxist as he was raised and further created by the INTERNATIONAL radical America-hating left. (eg Soros, et al).

To those that say they would not vote for Bush if he were the candidate are ignoring the FACT that not voting for the Repub candidate are GIVING A VOTE to the radical left candidate (Hitlery most likely). That cannot happen. Hitlery is Obama version 2.0. Having said that, I seriously doubt that Bush will be the Repub candidate. The American Republic cannot take another radical leftist president who will destroy the SCOTUS with one more radical leftist and everything else. It is our only hope to begin fixing Obama’s damage to America and the world in general.

Yep. Really stupid move which will take at least a decade to correct. I'm told it was driven by the public employee unions who are afraid the legislature might actually do something about inflated pensions and wanted the state supreme court as a firewall.

Our county (Westmoreland) also returned the commissioner's majority to the RATs. But it looks like our lower courts got two of two solid conservatives on the bench, one by a mere 116 vote margin, pending recount.
