Democrats outspent and outpolled Republican novice Matt Bevin, and expected their candidate, Attorney General Jack Conway, to keep the Kentucky governorship in Democrat hands, where it had been for all but one term of the last half century. Instead, Tea Partier Bevin, who had previously challenged Mitch McConnell for the GOP nomination for Senator and lost big, pulled off a near landslide victory with an 85,000 vote margin. Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Alan Blinder of the New York Times:
In beating his Democratic opponent, Attorney General Jack Conway, by almost nine percentage points, Mr. Bevin, 48, shocked people in his own party, who believed that the climate in Kentucky was ripe for a Republican but feared that Mr. Bevin, a charismatic conservative with a go-it-alone style, was too far out of the mainstream and too inexperienced to win.

And Mitch McConnell is looking for a place to change his drawers...
Tea Party is dead, doncha know?
Bevin didn’t ignore Conservatives
Unfortunately Mitch the B...h is safe for almost his whole term. When they have the next senate election, hopefully he is voted out as majority leader in favor of someone who plans to run the dems off the playing field.
C’est la vie!!
this is good... maybe he can appoint a conservative to the senate when mitch throws in the towel.
Despite everything, no one yet seems adequately to assess the dissatisfaction of the American electorate.

Yeah, the party boys always seem to be shocked when a conservative wins, particularly after saying that the conservative couldn’t possibly win, but tend to go silent when yet another of their squishy middle-of-the-road candidates goes down in flames.
Early signs of a wave election in 2016. Now we just need to pick the right candidate.
“too far out of the mainstream and too inexperienced”
...that’s exactly how he won. Dave Brat is another good example.
the guy is a better, finer person than he is politician......
yep, that “experienced mainstream” will kill you.....
I’m surprised there wasn’t rampant voter fraud to be honest.
GOPe in shock as well.
And just to sweeten the pot, his Lt. Gubbernor is a black, TEA Party woman Jenean Hampton.
The Tea Party has peaked.
Meanwhile the unions bought the school boards in Colorado.
While less likely, it is still possible that McConnell will get the boot, much like Boner.
If he's eventually run out of town, we'll be glad to have a R Governor, since his replacement will be appointed.
It puts Mitch into a delicate position now. The insiders intended for him to retire in a year or two, and have the governor to appoint a new replacement. Mitch is pretty much stuck now....if he retires...the governor will just pick himself, and go into DC as a Senator via this option.
