Build a wall on the border? No thanks, says San Diego. (Darrell Issa too.)
Washington Post ^ | October 31, 2015 | Liam Dillon

… While Trump and other GOP presidential candidates push for a giant wall between the United States and Mexico, San Diego is literally building a bridge. In December, an international group of developers, which includes real estate magnate Sam Zell, plans to open a pedestrian walkway that bypasses the regular U.S. border crossings and directly connects San Diego to Tijuana’s international airport.

Meanwhile, all five members of San Diego’s congressional delegation, including stalwart Republican Reps. Darrell Issa and Duncan Hunter, have successfully advocated for the $500 million in additional funds needed to expand the main border crossing. And the city’s new mayor, Kevin Faulconer (R), traveled to Tijuana during his first week in office in 2014 and has called for comprehensive immigration reform. …

And your point is?

FR would probably get better and cheaper hosting in, say, Texas. And people living in CA are supporting the monster that is the CA government with their taxes. Move and they have that much less money to play with.

A new Alta California = new Red China frontier on the border of other states.

“Time to give California back to Mexico.”

Are you suggesting that Free Republic be located in a new part of Mexico?

The Carson side of my family says NO to your idea.

BTW Can any of your nutty/fruity neighbors or relatives that moved here in the past 50 years come home with all forgiven/tolerated? We’d sure appreciate it!

Stop being a fool.
No one crosses the border at San Ysidro without proper documents.

Stop attacking people becauase you misread or misunderstood a post.

I didn't say the illegals DO just walk across the border now.

Here is what I said:

"they want their extended family to be able to walk here across the border as if it doesn't exist."

Well San Diego can screw itself, that’s a Federal Border not a State or city border. If they want Mexicans so bad why don’t they petition to secede from the US and become a part of the mexico the seem to adore so much, hey, maybe they could get jebito to represent them!

I am suggesting that FR move.

Also, my family has been leaving CA as it’s become more and more clear that the place is an untenable mess heading for a nasty collapse. I grew up in LA and left after Roberti-Roos and the 1992 LA Riots made it painfully apparent what was going on.

There are tens of thousands of legal crossing per day, just like El Paso-Juarez.

Some people live in one country, and work in the other-all nice and legal.

I’m aware of the status quo. That does not mean I acquiesce to it or suggest taking it to another depth.

If the people running San Diego have such a big problem with border controls, how about we tear down the border COMPLETELY there, and move it 40 miles north.

They can live under MEXICAN RULE if they LOVE that country so much.

“The wall will be a Federal Property and in this case federal eminent domain will apply. San Diego has no say in it.”

The media likes to CLUTTER UP national issues with local concerns...when it suits them.

Try building a freeway and you NEVER hear the end of local landowners complaining. Try building a bullet train and you’d think the entire train was running on property already owned by the government - yes locals may complain, but the media never seems to find time for THOSE complaints.

...part of having the left own the media, and makes me somewhat sympathetic to Putin, if his media behaves like ours.

You’ll have to help me with that date.

June 25th rings a bell since it’s Custer’s demise on the Little Big Horn, but not that same date in 1950.

When the majority of California voters supported
Proposition 187 which was an anti-illegal alien measure,
the Texas governor, a guy named Bush advised against it.
For that reason the state of Texas should also be given
back to Mexico.

That thought, while likely true, has no relevance to this article.

No one will ever be able to do that.
