In December, an international group of developers, which includes real estate magnate Sam Zell, plans to open a pedestrian walkway that bypasses the regular U.S. border crossings and directly connects San Diego to Tijuana’s international airport.
Meanwhile, all five members of San Diego’s congressional delegation, including stalwart Republican Reps. Darrell Issa and Duncan Hunter, have successfully advocated for the $500 million in additional funds needed to expand the main border crossing. And the city’s new mayor, Kevin Faulconer (R), traveled to Tijuana during his first week in office in 2014 and has called for comprehensive immigration reform. …

The San Ysidro border crossing does need to be rebuilt.
It was designed to handle about 1/20th of the traffic that now uses it. That creates problems for interdiction of contraband. It also causes hours of lost time for thousands of people every day.

Why of course not! In this age where common sense is flushed down the toilet and drugged up denial reigns, there’s no sense in building a wall that’s going to stop all of the invaders from coming over here to get all those goodies that we work for daily with our hard earned tax dollars right?

That’s the way they look at it. The relationships may be completely illegal, but the Chamber of Commerce sees them as fully qualified workers.
Enough has been said about the COC that doesn’t need to be repeated, with respect to their lack of patriotism.
Duncan Hunter Sr said they already built a wall in San Diego and I believe he said it works beautifully.

There is double fencing along much of he border below San Diego. Duncan Hunter, Sr. played a big part in getting that constructed and mentioned it often when he ran for president in 2008.
This story just illustrates a major problem, that being the attitude of border area residents and politicians that their interests should come before the interest of the rest of nation in having sensible border security.
I’m not at all sure that it is helpful to the discussion to call your fellow freepers “fools” and “idiots”, do you?
Nothing about this plan to improve legal transportation and commerce contradicts conservatives’ basic support of *legal* immigration, anymore than the `Tijuana Trolley’ did thirty years ago.
I’m sure a good deal of the expense will be security, as you say, to interdict contraband, free-booting aliens and other illegal activity.
I worked at an El Cajon (western San Diego county, sat in a bowl, hot as ****) warehouse that handled picture frames made in Mexico, before China undercut their cheap prices.
Two of my coworkers made the trip into work from their homes in Mexico every day, that’s how easy it was for them; conversely, a lot of San Diegans made the trip down to Tijuana every week or so to fill up their cars with cheap Mexican gas.
Illegal “immigration” is southern California’s problem but they’ve made it all of ours. They’ve done such a great job so far as a clearing house for illegals, providing safe haven, safe house, etc., the rest of us will just sit back and watch, as usual, stuned.
Lately I’m thinking a complete moratorium on all immigration (that is, legal immigration, excepting applications being processed) might be a good idea, until we manage to get the wire unwrapped from the tractor’s axle following 30 years of federal neglect and kicking this can down the road.
That belief still doesn’t contradict what San Diego is planning: expediting legal commerce between our two countries, even if Mexico is a corrupt, lawless ****hole, and not our friend.
I suppose by your lights that conclusion still makes me an idiot and fool. You argue like a lefty.
