"On why the free market wonât develop new forms of energy fast enough: ...Without a substantial carbon tax, thereâs no incentive for innovators or plant buyers to switch."

Commercial customers of Microsoft told them they were WAY off track on their OS starting back in 2000.
MS refused to listen to them and thus eventually, MS killed the PC market.
Gates knows nothing about energy production and for sure, taxing companies and voters will NOT fix his problem anymore than outsourcing his software engineers fixed MS.
Way too much time and billions on his hands.

“If heâs into nuclear power production, good for him. We donât have to develop losing energy sources like wind, solar, and cold fusion. Nuclear is right there with no impact on CO2.”
Exactly! Here in California, being situated on the coast, we have easy means to build and maintain a bunch of nukes. We wouldn’t be in a drought if we had desal plants, but they take a lot of electricity which is also in short supply thanks to the drought. Also electric cars would also make more sense of you charged them with electricity made by a nuke instead of burning coal or natural gas. But the government has convinced us that nukes are a bomb in waiting, so we all suffer the consequences of that stupidity.
I agree 100%.
We already have one, it is called fracking. Too bad leftist morons like Gates don’t appreciate it.
This from the geek who once stated in 1981 at a microcomputer conference that PCs should never need more than 640k RAM. The actual quote was “640K ought to be enough for anybody”.
Microsoft has tried to revise history by saying he never said it, but in fact he did.
Please Bill look into the future for us. /s
Bill has it backwards, financial incentives, not penalties will drive the market.
Gates needs to finance LFTR thorium reactor technology. LFTR technology can be fast-tracked, such as Gates requires. LFTR solves everyone’s problems, across the ideological spectrum: no CO2 emissions, cheap inexhaustible energy and burns spent nuclear fuel to boot.
Hey Billy. Don’t you have some money to count or something? You need to lighten up before you have a stroke.
He bought DOS from some guy that ripped off (reverse engineered) CPM. But give Bill credit he is a good salesman and he convinced IBM to use DOS as the OS on their new PC. IBM considered the PC a toy and did not think anything would come of it. But at the time gov was using a variety of small office computers (all of them as good or better than the IBM PC). But none of the office computers could communicate or share data with the others, so to end this mess Reagan declared that gov should adopt the IBM PC as the standard office computer. In an instant Bill Gates became a billionaire. Gates won the lottery. Other than being a good salesman Gates brings nothing to the table in terms of talent.
You DO realize that tar is CARBON, don’t you? YOU and your idea is EXACTLY why they REALLY want a carbon tax: protection from the peasantry.
MARK MY WORDS: FEATHER TORCH, and PITCHFORK taxes will be next!

Bill Gates has turned into a shill for crooked government.
Fast enough for what? What need is there for "new forms of energy" when existing forms are more than meeting demand - in other words energy is being supplied "fast enough." We have not run out of any of our energy sources.
"Private sector is inept" says Bill Gates. I'm assuming he next pointed to himself as exhibit A.
Bill Gates may have gotten lucky in being a marketing guy early on but the man is an idiot overall
FROM HUFFPOST 5-28-2011:
All the President’s (Coal) Men: Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Obama’s Wyoming Giveaway
By Jeff Biggers
What really happened in Wyoming last week?
Perhaps we should ask billionaire coal hauler Warren Buffett, the “Oracle of Omaha.”
Energy and climate analysts and Big Green organizations are still staggering around for an answer to the Obama administration’s blockbuster news in Wyoming’s coalfields last week to greenlight the mining of an estimated 750 million-2.4 billion tons of coal on public lands. According to environmental analysts, “when burned, the coal threatens to release more than 3.9 billion tons of heat-trapping carbon dioxide, equal to the annual emissions from 300 coal-fired power plants.”
As Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar scrambles to explain his wildly exaggerated claims of the coal lease sales from his announcement, the truth is that this mind-boggling announcement comes on the heels of EPA administrator’s proposed new rules to crack down on mercury emissions from coal-fired plants — that will, in effect, continue the move away from coal-fired energy.
It would be easy to point an accusing finger at Salazar, the former cowboy senator from neighboring coal-rich Colorado who accepted massive amounts of contributions from dirty energy companies, and whose Bureau of Land Management quietly gave the green light for another 430 million tons of coal at the Antelope strip mine in Wyoming last year (within hours of the EPA’s crackdown on mountaintop removal mining operations in central Appalachia).
But I don’t think Salazar is the culprit on this Wyoming spring sale: President Obama needs to be called out for his less than transparent catering to his long-time billionaire and coal-profiteering friends. . .

FU Gates, shove your carbon tax up your tailpipe.
Crony crapitalism at work here. Gates is heavily invested in Terra Power as you say. What he says is all about money, HIS MONEY and getting MORE of it. They never have enough until they have it all.
Nonetheless, this is another SCARE tactic to terrorize the young and ignorant and otherwise weak minded and stupid.
