Johann Georg Jacobi was a German poet of the second rank, and Franz Schubert at 19 turned this little bit of dross into his greatest gold. Tony Salieri was beside himself with pride when he heard this song. The mix of German and Italian styles is exquisite.

This is Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau accompanied by Gerald Moore. The video contains subtitles in English.
