A Russian airliner has crashed in central Sinai with more than 200 people on board, the office of Egypt's prime minister has confirmed.
The Airbus A-321 had just left the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, bound for the Russian city of St Petersburg.
Wreckage of the plane has been found in the Hassana area and bodies removed. An official described a "tragic scene".
Flight KGL9268 disappeared from radar screens when travelling at 9,500m (31,000ft), Egyptian officials said.

Obama, once again received his 3:00 a.m. phone call.
Unconfirmed reports are that the pilot declared an emergency due to a ‘technical fault’ and requested to be diverted to Al-Arish airport in Sinai.
A lot of divers on board most likely
Reuters reporting that rescuers can hear voices of passengers trapped in fuselage.
” Egyptian PM (220 aboard?)”?
\Huh, wonder if Putin disliked this guy and took the jet out like he did that Polish jet carrying half the Polish Gubmint?
My God, if there are survivors thats incredible.
Lost pressure, either by metal fatigue or missile fatigue.
Good current summary here: http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/615986/Missing-plane-crash-Egypt-Russia-Airbus-A321
There is a major ISIS contingent in the area of the crash armed with advanced AA missiles smuggled in from Libya ... Don’t know whether those missiles can reach to 20-30,000 ft. Retaliation for Russian bombing in Syria?
I’ll say. Latest is that the plane broke up in two and rescuers are trying to enter one section of the fuselage. Currently 100 bodies have been recovered.
“Several tweets saying that some Egyptian officials are claiming the aircraft was SHOT DOWN.”
Sad.
Prayers for the families.
Manpad?
A British C-130 was downed in Iraq in ‘06 flying at 30,000’. The insurgents, AKA Al Qaeda-in-Iraq, AKA ISIS video taped it and I saw the video. They lined up under the known flight path between 2 navigation beacons and fired unguided rockets at approaching aircraft. Eventually they hit the Brit C-130. It was blown to pieces with wreckage scattered all over.
The solution was to fly slightly offset the flight line rather than directly between 2 points. Never happened again.
Oh my. Thank you for posting. I hope it was not a hostile act.
My bet is yes.
Was it because of a video?
If this was shot down, I don’t expect the perpetrators to claim they did until they are about 50 miles away and upwind.
Per Flightradar 24, max Altitude was 11,000 feet.
Isn't that awfully low for a commercial airplane that far into the journey? I would have thought they would be at their cruising altitude a lot earlier than 23 minutes into the flight. If they never got above 11,000 feet then wouldn't that indicate they ran into trouble shortly after takeoff?
