Two top senators Thursday demanded that the Obama administration explain why the Internal Revenue Service is using technology to secretly track cellphones that is normally the domain of law-enforcement agencies.
The move by Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont followed IRS Commissioner John Koskinen's admission to the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday that the agency uses the technology.

LOL. The show must go on. Today’s theatre in the rotunda is a Kabuki Pole Dance.
Lol. Yeah, I guess the IRS protects us from “cold war situations” and various collapses in civilizations.
I knew the IRS was powerful, but - just WOW. If those meetings had also revealed perhaps a cold war situation, or a silent, state based enemy was behind these attacks and that exposure or public knowledge of that situation could bring a collapse in civilization, would you still feel that way?
OMG - they must be far more the just Internal Revenue. I mean, they sound like the last bastion of freedom!
Please take my money ....
Isn’t Koskinen the guy that senile old fool Orrin Hatch said he admires...?
why on god’s green earth does the IRS need this technology?
Indeed, Ted has sid the words "abolish the IRS", but from what I can see of his plan, it doesn't even attack that issue at all. What it does is rejigger the rates down to a mostly "flat" rate. This is something I can support. However, it does nothing to "abolish" the IRS, because it's still based on income. The biggest mass of IRS regulations concern the reporting of income, and what is and isn't considered "income" for the purposes of the tax. All of the 4th and 5th amendment-destroying qualities of the current IRS would still exist under this plan, though it would admittedly, and thankfully have lower rates and fewer deductions.
If one actually wants to abolish the IRS, you have to go with a different method of taxation entirely. My personal favorite is the national retail sales tax (NRST). The NRST gets rid of the reporting requirement altogether. You pay sales tax just like you do on practically everything today. All the mechanisms are already in place to collect the tax, so you don't need any new swarms of agents. If you dump the income tax (and repeal the constitutional amendment allowing it), that would destroy the IRS as we know it.
I'm a Cruz supporter, (he's the only one I've sent money to), but this plan is not a tool to destroy the IRS. Even if we were to go back to the original 1913 rates, it wouldn't get rid of the IRS.We'd merely be rolling the rates back (granted, to rates that are much more reasonable than todays rates) but it isn't accomplishing what we want.
[the Darrell Issa puppet shows]
yep
We are talking about a CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION called the IRS. Not the Dept. of Defense or Homeland Security.
If you trust them, then by all means be my guest.
Just sayin.
Obama in one hand, TexasGunLover's "ass-urances" in the other.
All ya got is a handful of feces. Or two. :)
Everybody on Free Republic knows that Nully is a Defender of Freedom.
We don't know about YOU.
You need to post your SSN so's teh IRS can answer yer concerns personally...
It's prolly got sumthin to do wit cold war situations, silent, state based enemys, or clapses in civilizashun, or all of dem.
It depends on your POV. Do you consider living in a police state civilized?
Well, isn’t it obvious why they’re doing this??? The phones are not paying their fair share of taxes!
yeah sure thing....that’ll go no where
