Americans are problem-solvers. We love a good solution. Give us a challenge, and we form committees, assess options, come up with a plan and execute it. This is a highly positive trait. In world affairs, though, it can bring us to grief.
Syria is burning in part because the United States is waiting for a good solution. Since all the main alternatives there are bad, we choose none of them. Our immobility has contributed to Syrias humanitarian catastrophe.
When the dust finally settles in Damascus, one of three forces will be in control. One strong possibility is the Islamic State, or ISIS, which wants to make Damascus the capital of its murderous caliphate. The second option is al Qaeda, which in Syria calls itself the Nusra Front. The third is the current government led by President Bashar Assad.
This is the full panoply of options for Syria. The fantasy of a moderate opposition is comforting but far from reality. Supporting fringe groups may prolong the war but will have no effect on its outcome. It is time to get real and choose between the three odious options that actually exist.
In this war, the United States has only enemies. We oppose every major force involved on the battlefield: Assads government, ISIS, the Nusra Front, Shiite militias, Iran and Russia. Although we cry for peace, we have no plan to achieve it. That is because winning in Syria means aligning ourselves with one vicious gang or another. Facing this reality is difficult but necessary. Today we have no strategic goal in Syria and countries that have no strategic goals can never achieve them.

But ... not Obama’s fault, right?
The best option.
Align with Assad and the Russians. Kill all islamic terrorists. Give the other half of Syria to the Kurds. Tell Turkey if the bo.B the Kurds one more time outside their country they will not have an air force the next day.
Fully arm and train the Christians.
Oh it has a good option.
Get out!
We could form a partnership with Russia to destroy ISIS and al Queda and let Assad take care of the rest.
Wait a minute. If you have no goals, you always achieve them.

We created this cluster phluck and now it is absolutely FUBAR, with perpetual chaos the only outcome
Wow
Google is a POS and reporting FR is rife with phishing.
Odd, since FR uses Screwgle analytics.
This punk BG journalista is given space here? Amazing.
Just did some quick research and this is not a screwgle issue, rather, it is a Firefox issue.
So, no problem. I just got this phone and hadn’t switched to my old browser.
Buh bye....homo’s....
I have an excellent winning option. Stay the HELL OUT!! No dog in that fight and Russia is there!! LET THE BIG DOG EAT!!
If I were running the War Department, I would stay out of Syria, but I would go back into Iraq and re-establish our presence and continue building the Iraq and Kurdish forces helping them to free themselves of ISIS and AQ as completely as possible. I would not bargain with the Iraq government, I would tell them exactly what we will do and exactly what they will do. The US is their only hope for any kind of a peaceful life and the Iraqi people seek that.
Excellent
Testing....
And who’s fault is that, hmmm?
We already formed a partnership with Russia to arm Iran with nukes. Russia isn’t the only partner to that plan, of course, but is in there.
Russia obviously does not want to partner with us, as they’ve made plain, with respect to Syria.
