Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. agreed to buy Rite Aid Corp. for about $9.4 billion, in a move that would create a drugstore giant at a time when companies in nearly every corner of the health-care industry are seeking to gain advantage from bulking up.

Walgreens agreed to pay $9 a share in cash for Rite Aid, offering a 48% premium to Rite Aid's closing price Monday. Rite Aid's stock rose 43% to $8.67 Tuesday after The Wall Street Journal reported on the deal talks.

So we’re now down to two drug stores - Walgreen’s and CVS. Wonder which one of them will be out the other? One drug store, one bank, one party in DC, One World order. Obama’s plan is moving way too fast. So much for choices and competition.

“I hope they don’t lose the Thrifty’s Ice Cream brand!”

Amen to that. That is all that matters to me!

Almost all of the grocery chains and discounters have pharmacies, some cheaper than Walgreens

According to an Associated Press article: Rite Aid stores will initially keep its name after the deal closes, Walgreens said, but that may change over time. The deal is expected to close in the second half of next year.

Well, considering that neither is really a “drug” store anymore, and they both sell clothing, candy, food and other cheap, useless crap that you’d be better off buying at a Walmart or other department store or supermarket, I don’t view this as a big loss.

too much concentration, we used to have anti-monopoly laws...
this sounds like a good case to consider them again...

And the neighborhood pharmacy becomes more of a memory.

I guess that was good for Bedford Falls.

Never mind.

The last time I was in Walgreens, I thought they were filming a “TARZAN” movie in there.

Rite aid bought Thrift Drug. I used to shop at Thrift almost daily especially over the Holidays. Their buyers were great and I found lots of stuff for my young kids at great prices!

Rite Aid isn’t even close. The only reason I go there is for Higi blood pressure.
