The planning stages for TCMS XI are in the works. At this point the plan is to hold the event in October 2016. (Yes, I know that is a looonnnggg way away!) The range we are considering is Hiciksville Range, in Gatesville. The closest lodging we could find is in Whitney.
We have already had one recon trip, which was not very productive due to heavy rains. The entire recon crew checked out one of the places we are considering staying. The majority of us fell in love with the place, even though it was a gloomy weekend. It made for some fun joking about being the perfect place to film a horror movie, especially with the creepy & trashy road to the resort. We all agreed that the pavilion was awesome; it is big enough to hold all of us without bumping into each other.
NYTexan & BuckeyeTexan checked out the other place. I liked it from looking at their website, but was not impressed with the pictures that Buckeye sent me. She & I are going to do another recon so that I can see it in person. There is also one more location we will look at. The one negative for both of those places is the size of their pavilions ~ we need lots of room to move & mingle.
Next week Eaker, humblegunner and I are going to Hicksville Range for a look see and discuss pricing.
Stay tuned for more info . . .
Looks just like mine minus a few white whiskers LOL
That will make it so nice! Do you also have newer pictures of the cottages without the river of mud running through them? LOL!
I’m really excited about this. I’ve heard such good things about the Lake Whitney area!
Unless I can get the way back machine working again.
Asking the people to be responsible for themselves really is the safest thing going.
Looking forward to seeing you and your crew.
Have you ever tried getting her to wear earmuffs?
I forgot to take pictures ~ I was too excited about seeing all the butterflies.
The quandary is both dates are in the Future LOL
Same to you! It'll be great seeing you and your old curmudgeon again :-)
Him? No LOL
Him? No LOL
Cool.
Same here! Christy, kid #3 who loves going to the shooting range would also love this. She’s the one who wore your daughter’s prom dress for a wedding she was in...I’d take her with me, lol.
Next year will be the first year I have no volleyball stuff (fall season sport) and really the youngest should be away at college and even if she’s not, it shouldn’t affect my life as it has for all these years, lol. Plus, I need a vacation. As of right now, I still have 70 paid days, I had 91 but used some (NJ taxpayer dollars at work) that I can take off for whatever reason.
Again, I work my ass off 10 months a year...with a week off at Christmas (winter break) and a week off at Easter (spring break) and countless other “breaks” and I still get 13 paid sick/personal days each year.
I want to come to this one.I’d have no kid school/sport/other thing.
touche
Guess I could bring my basketball. :)
Looks great Mom.
It is just down the road from me, only about 50 miles.
I will be there with Brisket or Steak or Sea Food Gumbo or a choice of any two of the above. TC shooters please chime in on what you want. I do know that Brisket is choice one but I will provide an additional choice of either Gumbo or Steak in addition to the Brisket.
I feel quite bad about not making the last shoot due to work and the hell of it is I am retired. However, I still work part time and there was no one else that could do the night shift at the VA Inpatient Hospital Pharmacy.
Both night shift pharmacists have retired and we do not have enough really qualified pharmacists to do the job. We have sufficient pharmacists but not enough that know what the hell they are doing?
This “aint” counting pills and filling bottles. We are a teaching hospital and the pharmacists are an integral part of the team. When things go bad for a patient I am working with the resident doctors that have their training wheels on. This is about decisions that must be right. If you do not know the right answer you must be able to get the right answer quickly. If the doctors knew the right answer they would not be calling you for help. I like my work.
As there was no one else really qualified I had to miss the last shoot. We have many pharmacists but few that can work the night shift alone.
I actually enjoy that kind of work for the Vets. When I have had a really crazy night I go home and know that I “did good.”
cpdiii (The Cook)
I have already talked to my boss and he knows that the next Cowboy Shoot is my time.
ps
The VA gets a bad name about service to the Vets and this is most deservedly so. This is not a problem of the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, etc. They do a good job. The problem is administration of the VA System. The problem comes from Washington DC and not your local VA. The local VA is conducting its business under the direction of Washington DC.
THE FISH ROTS FROM THE HEAD DOWN!
Thanks for the report on the VA cpdiii! your remarks echo what I saw at the VA in Kansas City with my dad a few years back.
The staff there was very courteous and pleasant to deal with. Even down to the custodial crew who went out of there way to help out my Dad a couple times.
I look forward to getting to see you and the rest of the gang next October.
To The Mom and gang, thanks for getting this set up and the heads up as well:-)
Regards

Got it covered.
Canoe rentals? Oh HELL yes.
Big honkin' pavillion with food prep area and refrigerators.
Hell, I been kicked out of worse places than that.
Some guy broke the dock.
Not all of it though.
The quarters haz a down-home aspect to 'em that I like.
Apparently they are out of fireworks.
