Kasich: I Brought Ford Jobs Back, Not Trump
NEWSMAX ^ | 10-26-2015 | Greg Richter

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump claimed credit Sunday for Ford Motor Company's plans to move a production plant from Mexico to Ohio.

Trump has been calling out Ford during his campaign, saying the automaker plans to move jobs from Michigan to Mexico, but Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who also is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, says the move from Mexico to Ohio had nothing to Trump's demands. "The truth is that Ford began moving jobs back to Ohio four years ago under the leadership of Governor John Kasich," the governor's campaign said in a statement to the press on Sunday night.

"Our country needs real leadership and not empty, false rhetoric," Kasich said. "Working as a team, we brought Ford production jobs back from Mexico to Ohio years ago. That's how things really get done. Hard work and teamwork brings results for the people."

When Kasich announced Ford was bringing the jobs to Ohio in 2011 the vice president of Ford North America Manufacturing said it was "enabled by the Governor and his strong leadership," the campaign noted.

Really, what demands did Trump direct at Ford?

I didn’t say he made any demands. He has been putting public pressure on Ford about its plans to build new plants (3,800 jobs) in Mexico. Ford hasn’t changed those plans.

Instead, Trump is trying to take credit for Ford’s decision to move a smaller production line (1,000 jobs) from Mexico to Ohio, a decision that was made (and announced) well before Trump began talking about it.

Trump is lying.

No, you didn't but Kasich did.

"Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who also is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, says the move from Mexico to Ohio had nothing to Trump's demands".

I bet he promised Ford they could have Mexican illegals in Ohio.
No reason to go to Mexico for cheap labor.

Frod announced the new plant in April of 2015, not 4 years ago

And Ford confirmed today that they are still building a plant in Mexico

Fair enough, that was a poor choice of words by Kasich.

Once again, all Trump could do is bring the hot public spotlights on these industry sellouts. He never made any "demands" of Ford as Kasich himself suggested.

So is Kasich lying too?

I hope Trump severely reprimands the young intern who made those erroneous tweets.

Still, Trump is the only candidate talking about trade policy. I bet Ford is rethinking it’s investments, because Trump’s threat of tariffs if fair trade agreements aren’t reached is real.

Agree Kasich bad choice of words.

But the bottom line for me is someone is FINALLY bringing these industry sellouts to the forefront in a very national public way. And that person is Trump.

Btw, does anyone know if the massive Mexican Ford plant construction has started or is complete? And what has Ford said about Trumps comments to tax the s**t out of them for taking thousands of American jobs to Mexico?

“That is on top of the 18 plants already in Mexico, and there are least five more planned or under construction. Mexico has seen a 40% increase in auto jobs since 2008 to 675,000 last year while the U.S. saw only a 15% increase in the same period to more than 900,000. Earlier this year, Ford announced it will spend $2.5 billion on new engine and transmission plants in Chihuahua and Guanajuato, in central Mexico, creating 3,800 jobs.”

Compared to all that, it seems Ford tossed a small bone to Ohio. Someone claimed this small bone was due to Kasich's leadership.

I'm not sure I buy even that. Was it leadership or freebies to Ford?

Let me bring up another name, George Voinovich. He brought the city of Cleveland out of Kucinichland and did the same for the state of Ohio as governor.

Then we have the Peter Principle of reality when he hit the Senate.

In August Ford was still planning a move to Mexico.

Trump hasn’t claimed to have contributed to Ford having built plants in the US previously.

Great example of how a POTUS Trump could use the bully pulpit to work with governors to save jobs.

I don’t believe Kasich. If it were true, he would have pounced on Trump the minute Trump brought up the subject, and would have yelled that he was already working on that. He said not a word, at either debate.

The initial report, about a month ago was that Ford was only bringing some truck production back from Mexico to Ohio as a result of Trump’s threats. Kasich never let out a peep about THAT news, either.

Now comes the rumor that Ford has bagged their $1.2 Billion new plant in Mexico plan, and is staying in the U.S. instead, and Kasich starts strutting and beating his chest. Laughable.
