The Relatio Finalis [final report] of Synod-2015, adopted this evening by the Synod Fathers, is a massive and encouraging improvement over the Instrumentum Laboris [working document] that was the baseline for the Synod

Thanks for posting! This article makes me feel much better...
AMEN!
Does First Things allow posting the whole text? Many sources don’t because they do all the work and then they don’t get the traffic to their site. I don’t know the First Things policy so if you’ve already checked, great. A otherwise I can email them.
Don't want to wish ill health on anybody, but.
Pope Francis will be 80 years old in 14 months. Of course he does not have to retire at 80, but he may have felt he could not afford to put off the synod since he doesn’t know how long he will be alive or in good health.
“Look over here.” “No! Look over there.”
We are about to be viewing more than this written document.
We will view the “fruit” of this document. Pray to God we still even know the difference any more, between good fruit and bad fruit. We are in a test.
God help us. I can’t imagine this is over.
When you hear that four out of fifteen small groups were amicable toward dissenting from the Church, or otherwise willing to lean toward the dissenters positions, to betray the simplest of dogma and doctrine, itself proven over the age of the Church, then you know you have some poorly catechized cardinals running around with too much influence over the “direction” of the Church.
What will be done with all the biblical turn of phrases in this Final Document, that Weigel describes positively, certainly remains to be seen, particularly in the eyes of Pope Francis.
Are we to just forget that the pope approved these dissenters and did so for no reason? Come now, are we to think they were placed in charge of also writing the Final Document for no reason?
Are we to forget that the pope approved the synod agenda from the beginning. Or, that he assigned the dissenters to frame the agenda for no reason?
Was Pope Francis’ deeply offensive criticism of traditional cardinals for no reason?
Pope Francis said their hearts were not open and were darkened.
Let’s not sleep through this just yet.
You bring up excellent points. I am going to let the Holy Spirit do Its work here and keep praying.
Thank you, Shark. I never set out to distrust the Vatican, certainly not this pope.
No, it took five years of fog and mirrors and two disastrous and equally alarming synods to force my distrust.
I look around at who is pleased by, or at least sympathetic to all of this endless confusion, calling it “progress” and even “mercy”, and I am not trusting that all this confusion that seems to glitter, is gold.
In fact, we are taught that confusion has an author. He has a name, and it is not Christ Jesus. Let us remain vigilant, in Christ Jesus.
In an off-the-cuff remark the Pope said, “I wouldn’t take all this God business too seriously if I were you.”
I am in “Jesus I trust in You” mode at this level of the Magisterium. Down in the trenches at the Parish level, I at least have the ability to move heavy objects in setting up for various Church events. Guess that is my calling. :)

The popes egg on everyone to speak up at these things....be not afraid. Let all see the power of these ideas and the power of the holy spirit. He fears not. Nor should we. Jesus, I trust in You.
Thank you for that wise answer. You’re awesome. Thank you. Your humility tells me all I need to know about you. You too are trustworthy in wisdom.
It’s a gift of God that we know wisdom, of Christ, when we hear it, whether it is from the Magisterium, or our fellow man. I hear it in you. Thank you for the truth of the matter. We all have some heavy objects to move, that’s for sure. :) Rita
Yes. At one time, FR published a list of sites that had to be excerpted. By now, that list is probably out of date. To test any site,, simply type a word in the box, and do preview. If it is a site that needs to be excerpted, it will generate a message indicating so. Otherwise, you may post the entire text.
I didn’t know George Weigel had been writing these pieces, because they are ascribed to the editor on the site. I’ll have to spend some time looking at what’s been posted.
All the discussion of who was at fault for the failure of a marriage completely ignores the issue of whether the marriage was valid in the first place. If the marriage was valid, its failure doesn't undercut the original validity. What we're being given is "Catholic divorce," not "mercy" for those in invalid marriages.
The final report is richly biblical, even eloquently biblical, as befits a Synod meeting on the fiftieth anniversary of the conclusion of the Second Vatican Council and its Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, Dei Verbum.
Sure, George, sure...VatII being such a spectacular success for the Church and all...
