Sales of diet Pepsi have plunged after the soft drink company behind it changed the recipe.
In a case with echoes of Cokes disastrous introduction of New Coke, Pepsi has faced a huge backlash after replacing the sweetener in the drink. Pepsi chose to remove the controversial sweetener aspartame - linked to cancer in some studies - with sucralose.
But customers arent happy. David Zimdars of Michigan said, It has a nasty aftertaste, and its sickly sweet. You have to wash it out with water.'
Pepsis choice of sucralose - known by the brand name Splenda - has been blasted online, with many consumers describing it as, Yukky.
In the month after the new recipe was introduced, sales of Pepsicos diet drinks dropped 6.6%.

Aspartame in diet soda is very bad for people.
I’m afraid of any processed food and drink now!
I wonder if that’s why nothing tastes right anymore unless it’s homemade.
I’ve gotten it at Wal-Mart.
[They managed to make it taste worse?! Thats quite the feat.]
Yeah, no kidding.
[It has a nasty aftertaste]
And aspartame doesn’t? (you didn’t mention that - I’m just saying)
I miss the aspartame (It’s protein)
Also I am pissed that Pepsi got rid of the 6-pack of 24oz bottles, leaving only the 16oz 6 pack which of course cost more per ounce.
And another THING!!!!
er, forgot. Time for another vanilla coke.
BTW, coke charges 4 dollars more per 36 pack over pepsi, i still buy coke./
my stock predictions, pepsi, McDs, Walmart and Twitter in trouble.
Twitter fundamentals suck.
i hate apple but could rise 50 percent over next 18 months.
msft going strong, dont know why.
facebook haven’t looked lately but i know up 400 percent over the past 3 years? i forget.
Freudian slip?
That’s actually one of my thoughts that didn’t make the post. Aspartame has a nasty aftertaste. For that matter Pepsi has a nasty aftertaste. I think what they really mean is it has a nasty aftertaste they haven’t gotten used to yet.
Salt and sugar are great preservatives and are used extensively to make food last longer on the shelves. That is what you taste, excess salt and sugar. Yuck.
If it's homemade then the salt and sugar can be MUCH less.
WE eat almost no processed food and we don’t drink soda’s. Polar Water is my one weakness. We make almost all of our food from scratch and we are getting obsessive about what stores we shop at.
Has everyone heard that Smithfield has been bought by the ChiComs and now the pigs will be raised in the US then shipped to China for processing and packaging and then back here for sale. We just crossed Smithfield off the list. Along with Butterball (all turkeys now Halal).
LEAVE ME ALONE!! GET OFF MY BACK!!!
make yourself useful and get me another cherry zero!!!
(chills, shaking, hallucinations)
we’ve stopped paying the life insurance and heating bills for more smack!!!
Wow.
That makes absolutely no sense at all.
Correct. It puts me off immediately. It’s all over the place - some gum products, the restaurant messes up and gives me Diet, some mints.
yuck
Ive never bought their product precisely because of aspartame.
Same here. Aspartame is very bad.
This is just a promotional scheme. They’ll change back to the “original” formula, like Coke did, and their sales will increase 5%. Watch and see.
I can drink regular Pepsi (if it was on sale) but after they went with their Obama logo I specifically avoid it unless nothing else I like is on sale (regular Coke, Vanilla Coke, regular RC) or if it all a restaurant I’m at serves. Shoot, even one of the local grocers has their own version of Dr. Pepper. It’s pretty good.
Won’t affect me. I don’t drink Pepsi OR Coke since they sold their souls to the Sodomite Gestapo.
