Sales of diet Pepsi have plunged after the soft drink company behind it changed the recipe.
In a case with echoes of Cokes disastrous introduction of New Coke, Pepsi has faced a huge backlash after replacing the sweetener in the drink. Pepsi chose to remove the controversial sweetener aspartame - linked to cancer in some studies - with sucralose.
But customers arent happy. David Zimdars of Michigan said, It has a nasty aftertaste, and its sickly sweet. You have to wash it out with water.'
Pepsis choice of sucralose - known by the brand name Splenda - has been blasted online, with many consumers describing it as, Yukky.
In the month after the new recipe was introduced, sales of Pepsicos diet drinks dropped 6.6%.

They managed to make it taste worse?! That’s quite the feat.
Ya , all Diet soft drinks taste like(cough)
I don’t drink diet anything. If I want a Pepsi, I go for the “original made with sugar.” I drink it so much, that the 8 pack of 7.5oz. cans I bought 3 months ago, is only half gone.
However, there is RC Cola on trips back to the Mid-west from the gas station across from one of the hotels I stay at.
I love Diet Pepsi and agree, the new formula is not good.
There is NOTHING like Coca Cola.
There WAS a similar drink way back when made to spike the guns of Coca Cola. It was called Kaki-kola. Nasty stuff.
We couldn't get Coca Cola in the KSA because Coca Cola had a bottling plant in Israel. Hah, they probably hired all Arab Muslims.
I’ve never bought their product — precisely because of aspartame. But I would definitely buy it now! I have been using Diet Rite, which is sweetened with sucralose. I prefer sucralose.
This is planned, just like New Come was planned.
The “fix” will be what they really wanted to do all along.
I love Splenda Diet Coke (it's been available here for years, not sure it's available everywhere in the US; most of the time I have to go to Meijer to find it), and Diet Rite (also Splenda), didn't know about this, will have to track it down. Aspertame has a crappy aftertaste (I'm used to it now), Splenda tastes (and aftertastes) much better).
LOL, New COKE
autocorrect...
This week marks the 46th anniversary of the Food and Drug Administration’s decision to ban cyclamate, the first artificial sweetener prohibited in the U.S., and yet scientists still haven’t reached a consensus about how safe (or harmful) artificial sweeteners may be.
Just like this BS study that made Pepsi be stupid.
LOL!
I drink New Coke, so I’m good.
HEATHEN!!! i should leave this website over that comment (but no one else would have me :))

“To bring out that special something in you, drink Burpsi-Cola! ERRRRRPPPP!!!”
(Jolt Cola used to be pretty good)
It has a nasty aftertaste
all diet drinks have a nasty aftertaste.
drink water if ya want a diet drink!
In other words, it tastes like Pepsi.
I can’t imagine anybody putting a Pepsi in their mouth after finding out they are using baby’s stem cells in the syrup. Actually I’m gagging a little just posting this. Eeek!
I remember the RC Cola and Coke flavors of the early 60’s, and they tasted way better to me than the current products. Only a dime and enough carbonation to cross your eyes, too.
I just drank one while I was reading this article. It has a chemical taste to it.
