Jeb Bush Struggles to Galvanize His Family’s Donor Base as Campaign Falters

As Jeb Bush heads to Texas on Sunday to rally top fundraisers along with his father and brother, former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, the family’s vaunted financial network is mostly disengaged and splintered—and his campaign stock is falling.

The one-time front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination is roughly tied for third place among GOP contenders in campaign cash and has fallen to fourth or fifth place in national polls, including the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey. His crowds are modest. He failed to dominate in either of the GOP debates, and million-dollar ad buys in Iowa and New Hampshire have barely moved the needle on his support in the early-contest states.

“Jeb’s just blended into the second tier of the Republican pack,” said Doug Corn, an Ohio-based financial adviser and top fundraiser for George W. Bush who hasn’t donated to a candidate this year. “When you run for president, you have to be very charismatic, you have to articulate extremely well and you have to show unbelievable amounts of passion.”

The inability of Mr. Bush to seize and hold the front-runner position among the politically experienced Republicans running for the White House is a big factor in the fluidity of the party’s primary race. In the 2012 contest, nominee Mitt Romney was leapfrogged in polls by various rivals yet consistently hovered in second place, positioned to break to the top when the competition settled into a rhythm.

Mr. Bush’s lagging candidacy gives an incentive to candidates such as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham to hope for a break and stay in the race, despite their own poor standing in polls and anemic fundraising.

his family's donor base

That, in a nutshell, is exactly what's wrong with Bush as a candidate.

Why doesn't his OWN family kick in to fund his campaign

Because it's in their nature to grab everything for themselves?

Jeb is providing one important service for history. He's shining a much-needed negative light on that dynasty.

Conservatives time after time divide their strength, as opposed to liberal democrats that always stand behind their candidate, no matter what. Seems to be a lesson conservatives either do not see or understand.

A losing stance ... over and over. Last time the conservatives won they were so attacked by the medias that it appears they gave up. Can’t stand the press.

Remember when Newt Gingrich. (sp) sorry) was leader of the Senate?

Communists/socialists/”progressives” and welfare addicts will vote for the D candidate. Jeb would get almost zero votes despite all his leftist policies. Conservatives will stay home. . Even the most “loyal” contributor or seeker of high- profit ripoff governmental contracts — won’t “contribute” or pay bribe money to an obvious loser. Bad business

My working theory is that Yeb will be toast after next weeks debate. Trump will make him defend Dubya the whole time. He will look nervous and sweaty as usual and will continue to drop in the polls after. Eventually Barbara Bush will say “enough”.
