Lots of silliness, but it opens the market for customers trapped in fascist states. I moved to ID to get away from asinine laws in CA. I build my ARs from parts that are legal under ATF definitions and meet my preferences.

I own a CA Compliant AR-15 that uses what is commonly known as a Bullet Button which met the requirement that a Tool must be used to remove the Magazine.

When he Politicos figured out that the Bullet Button, using a Bullet Point or a Magnetic Tool to release the Magazine didn’t cause a big problem with Reloading the Rifle, they went Ballistic.

Human Ingenuity is abhorrent to Liberal Politicians. I think they are still trying to figure out how to fix their Infringement Laws including outlawing removable Magazines.

They would prefer we had Muskets, or Wrist Rockets.

The compliant rifles are built with a "bullet button" instead of a normal magazine release button. You have to use a "bullet" or a tool to press the mag release. There is nothing to prevent inserting a 30 round mag other than laws against possession. People who fear prosecution for violating the law will avoid situations that violate the law. Criminals will solve the problem by swapping out the bullet button hardware for standard mag release hardware and stuffing any magazine they want in the mag well.

It's only an impediment to the law abiding person in a fascist state.

US 2nd Circuit Court just upheld the NY & CT “assault weapon” bans based on cosmetics. At least Ruger is giving residents thereof viable options, albeit missing standard conveniences (which the Court actually said are “a milder way of saying that these features make the weapons more deadly” as their core justification for upholding the ban).

I’ve never heard of 30 round clips. The NATO 5.56 would come on a plastic clip that held 10 rounds. You could then throw that clip into a mag charger that you’d put on top of your 30 round magazine and you could speed load that way.

Why, the law of course. No one ever would break the law. Only criminals would break the law. Just look at the “gun free zones” across America and you can see just how safe people are once they pass the necessary law(s) {sarc}

You are mistaken as regards California. The Ruger 556 is available here. The only restrictions (like everyone else’s ARs) is a bullet button mag release and a ten round mag. Mine happens to be a Del-Ton!

If you have a fully extended and fixed M4 stock, you’d be better off with a normal stock for a much better cheekweld.

IIRC, Ruger has made export versions of the Mini-14, which lack the gas system and function as straight-pull action repeaters. Clever (and yes, sad).
