The Southern Baptist primary is over, and the preachers kid won.
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, son of a Baptist evangelist and capable of bringing his own fire and brimstone in the Republican campaign, collected both a thunderous ovation and a subtle blessing Sunday at the North Texas Presidential Forum at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
Eight years ago, Prestonwood Pastor Jack Graham told worshipers how God is lifting up presidential candidates and his favor is upon Mike Huckabee...
This time around, Huckabee has plenty of words. Just no campaign money.
He chatted breezily with Graham Sunday, and drew cheers when he brought up the Islamic State: You have to defeat them or they will kill us.
By then, though, Graham had welcomed Cruz with a familiar line: The Lord seems to be elevating you and giving you favor.
Six candidates spoke separately at the forum, open to both Republicans and Democrats. The crowd of 6,000-plus warmed to them all at times, particularly neurosurgeon and evangelical author Ben Carson.
But Cruz seemed most at home. Unlike Carly Fiorina or Jeb Bush, for example, he started out preaching, not explaining his faith journey.
Cruzs father, Rafael, is a Denton County-based evangelist and translator. The younger Cruz turned up the heat right away, declaring an awakening we are seeing a spirit of revival across this nation.
When Cruz said, Our consitutional rights are under assault, voices shouted back, Yeah! and Amen!
Cheers rose again when he said, 2016 is going to be a religious liberty election, and brought up the 1980 pivot-turn election of President Reagan: I believe 2016 will be an election like 1980.
My goodness, Graham said afterward, You know how to fire people up. (snip)

The Huckabee hate is most unchristian.
particularly neurosurgeon and evangelical author Ben Carson.

Seventh Day Adventist is considered evangelical?
I don’t know as anyone “hates” him. People are questioning his motivation. He didn’t make it in 2008. He had some money then, he doesn’t have any money now. In Iowa, the religious vote is predominately with Carson, and Trump. Do you believe he has a chance to win the nomination?
I don’t hate anyone (and no “Christian” does)—and I appreciate some of what Huckabee says-—but his acceptance of the Marxist/Neo-Freudian system of Common Core is intolerable and proves his mind is having trouble being coherent and rational. The mind/worldview of children is crucial for our future, and he is “for” the rotting of the children’s minds by the government. It is evil-—God calls on parents to educate their children in the ways of the Lord-—not immerse them in satanism.
He is not nearly as intelligent as Cruz.
You’re the best.LOL
He's in the race at the behest of the RNC with the sole goal of pulling evangelical votes from Ted Cruz and keeping the base splintered to make room for Jeb! It's not working because Trump has completely changed he game.
“Quite a lot of conservative Christians would vote for Huckabee or Cruz rather than Trump. I would.”
I would vote for Trump. Have you ever noticed the way Cruz votes? Opposite of what he says.
1. Wanted to increase H1-B visas five fold
2. Voted for TPA
3. Voted for Corker bill
4. Is for amnesty
I don’t care how much he talks about the Bible. The devil quotes scripture.
The others are not what they say. They say one thing and do the opposite. Years ago when Perry first ran, I was all for him, until I researched him and discovered what he did was a lot different than what he said. Huck is not the person for the job. I am undecided about Cruz but am finding things about him that I really do not like. None of the others, including Carson, should be anywhere near the WH. We need a very, very strong leader who will get this country back on track. That is Trump.
Couldn't be farther from the truth.
Why is it that no one is bringing up facts about the cultish Seventh Day Adventist organization which counts Carson among its members.....seeing that the media and pundits dissect and snarkily raise question Trump's Christian, Bible-based religion along with the tenets of his home church?
Few people know a single thing about the extra-Biblical doctrines that set the SDA church apart from evangelical Christianity.
It would behoove everyone among the evangelicals to research the strange teachings of this cult and enlighten Carson boosters regarding same....and then let everybody make up their own minds.
What's theological sauce for the Trump should also be the same for the goose. Ben Carson is not one with the evangelicals in any way, shape or form.
Leni
I did a little research on him and you are right. He is a pretender.
Sorry, but this Baptist does not trust him one little bit.
If he worship at SAD and a member, I compare them a little with the Mormons ???
BTW. Our Lutheran Church is not rooting for Carson but for Trump as far as I can translate from conversations there!!!
Thanks for that info and reminder :-)
