The Southern Baptist primary is over, and the preachers kid won.
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, son of a Baptist evangelist and capable of bringing his own fire and brimstone in the Republican campaign, collected both a thunderous ovation and a subtle blessing Sunday at the North Texas Presidential Forum at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
Eight years ago, Prestonwood Pastor Jack Graham told worshipers how God is lifting up presidential candidates and his favor is upon Mike Huckabee...
This time around, Huckabee has plenty of words. Just no campaign money.
He chatted breezily with Graham Sunday, and drew cheers when he brought up the Islamic State: You have to defeat them or they will kill us.
By then, though, Graham had welcomed Cruz with a familiar line: The Lord seems to be elevating you and giving you favor.
Six candidates spoke separately at the forum, open to both Republicans and Democrats. The crowd of 6,000-plus warmed to them all at times, particularly neurosurgeon and evangelical author Ben Carson.
But Cruz seemed most at home. Unlike Carly Fiorina or Jeb Bush, for example, he started out preaching, not explaining his faith journey.
Cruzs father, Rafael, is a Denton County-based evangelist and translator. The younger Cruz turned up the heat right away, declaring an awakening we are seeing a spirit of revival across this nation.
When Cruz said, Our consitutional rights are under assault, voices shouted back, Yeah! and Amen!
Cheers rose again when he said, 2016 is going to be a religious liberty election, and brought up the 1980 pivot-turn election of President Reagan: I believe 2016 will be an election like 1980.
My goodness, Graham said afterward, You know how to fire people up. (snip)

Ted Cruz was very at ease--if one wants to listen to his remarks and Q and A, it's here.

Baptists must have recognized that Huck calls down the fire and brimstone and speaks truth to power - at primary time only.
yeah, but at the debate I kind of think he threw himself on the sword, saying things that needed to be said but wouldn’t further his election cause.
I know I’ll get clobbered now :)
I dont think winning election is the reason he is running. I dont know why 85 percent are running :)
Quite a lot of conservative Christians would vote for Huckabee or Cruz rather than Trump. I would.
Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, “Don’t do it!” He said, “Nobody loves me.” I said, “God loves you. Do you believe in God?”
He said, “Yes.” I said, “Are you a Christian or a Jew?” He said, “A Christian.” I said, “Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?” He said, “Protestant.” I said, “Me, too! What franchise?” He said, “Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?” He said, “Northern Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?”
He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region.” I said, “Me, too!”
Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912.” I said, “Die, heretic!” And I pushed him over.
BWAHahahahahahahaha!
TED CRUZ was by far the top candidate at the at the North Texas Presidential Forum. He had facts, stories, humor, vision, passion and honored the Lord...
What else can I say but TED CRUZ 2016
Emo Phillips...
Baptist “free for all” or “Baptist free” for all?
In New Testament theological principle Christian dynamics isn’t supposed to work according to a named earthly leader. In practice this understanding can be flagrantly violated and as you have drolly illustrated can lead to heartbreaking hatreds.
The power of Christian faith is such that if it is twisted, the distortion is also powerful and can cause the unwary to stumble. It might be likened to nuclear energy. Destructive bombs or constructive power? Depends on how it is used.
Of course, rabbis would NEVER act that way....
A cruise liner sinks and a lone-surviving Jew is able to swim to a deserted island. Years later he’s found by a passing vessel and they find him and ask about his ordeal and the multiple constructions he’s built.
“That’s my synagogue....that’s my house....that’s my supply shed...that’s my fish smoking/drying hut.....that’s another sysnagogue....”
“Wait— you just said that was the synagogue. Why did you build two just for yourself?”
“That’s the one I pray in and THAT’s the one I won’t step foot in...”
Probably comes close to happening. Someone is inspired to and leads a movement and then finds some reason not to get along with it any more... it is a pan-faith problem. To apply just the right touch to bring God into the picture without pulling the picture down under men’s feet is the balance problem. Some systems fundamentally are better suited to being able to do that than others are, and that’s about all I choose to say here about it.
CRUZ OR LOSE
I won’t. We need a fighter in office not a “let’s all get along.” Very few of my Baptist friends or members of other churches would vote for either over Trump. I am basing this on what friends say in real life plus their posts on FB. One of them is for Huck.
Say it with me brother HiTech..... Cruz or Lose, Amen, so may it be His will....
The only actual “cruz” that will succor in the end is the loving ministration of Christ by virtue of His sacrifice on the Cross (cruz in Spanish).
Who will best facilitate this work, which must be willingly embraced, it cannot be legislated upon a people? Trump has the virtue of combating public apathy across a surprisingly wide spectrum of citizens. By poll, at least, most people in America are Christian at least in name. Trump’s status as believer or not has less impact here than the citizens’ caring participation. The bible never said righteousness exalts a government; the bible says righteousness exalts a nation. The responsible parties are named right at the top of the US constitution: “We The People.”
I don’t think I’ve ever told you how grateful I am for your posts, HT Redneck. You have done my heart SO much good lately. THANK you. God Bless you back.
As a Christian believer Cruz could do well. My gut sense leans towards Trump because he is getting a measurably greater buy in from the American people, who by and large are still unhappy with the godlessness of government. But I allow this could be wrong.
Meaning, we are responsible for holding our elected officials accountable for their actions.
I think people are finally getting it though .. because they had witnessed such a terrible nightmare when they don’t do their job .. because that leaves the “elected” to whatever the hell they want.
And .. I believe both Trump and Cruz are the type of person who recognizes those facts.
