History hasn't looked kindly on the Catholic Church during WW II. The conventional narrative is not the whole story

At six in the morning on Sunday, 12 March, a procession snaked toward the bronze doors of St. Peter’s. Swiss Guards led the line, followed by barefoot friars with belts of rope. Pius took his place at the end, borne on a portable throne. Ostrich plumes stirred silently to either side, like quotation marks.

Pius entered the basilica to a blare of silver trumpets and a burst of applause. Through pillars of incense he blessed the faces. At the High Altar, attendants placed on his shoulders a wool strip interwoven with black crosses.

Outside, police pushed back the crowds. People climbed onto ledges and balanced on chimneys, straining to see the palace balcony.

At noon Pius emerged. The cardinal deacon stood alongside him. Onto Pacelli’s dark head he lowered a crown of pearls, shaped like a beehive. “Receive this Tiara,” he said, “and know that you are the father of kings, the ruler of the world.”

Germany’s ambassador to the Holy See, Diego von Bergen, reportedly said of the ceremony: “Very moving and beautiful, but it will be the last.”

As Pacelli was crowned, Hitler at tended a state ceremony in Berlin. In a Memorial Day speech at the State Opera House, Grand Admiral Erich Raeder said, “Wherever we gain a foothold, we will maintain it! Wherever a gap appears, we will bridge it! . . . Germany strikes swiftly and strongly!” Hitler reviewed honor guards, then placed a wreath at a memorial to the Unknown Soldier. That same day, he issued orders for his soldiers to occupy Czechoslovakia.

On 15 March the German army entered Prague. Through snow and mist, on ice-bound roads, Hitler followed in his three-axel Mercedes, its

I don't know.

All I know is that after WWII, everyone thought the Vatican helped out during the Holocaust. Then in the 60s, a nasty little gay play called “The Deputy” surfaced and before you knew it, gays and liberals were all over the Pope as a anti-Semitic man dedicated to killing Jews. And, I'm ashamed to say, American-Jews bought into this canard as well and still perpetrate this lie.

Today, no one remembers gay men's participation in Nazi Germany. They've buried that inconvenient truth.

So Pius XII was directly involved in plots to kill Hitler.

The LAST FIVE POPES haven’t had the guts even to say out loud that pro-abortion politicians must not be given Communion.

So Pius XII was directly involved in plots to kill Hitler.

Hitler instigated a plot to kill/kidnap Pius XII.

Credit to the Pontiff if he in fact was involved. But the idea of a Papal plot to assassinate a national leader reminds me of the much more overt but equally unsuccessful plots against Elizabeth I. One man’s heretic is another man’s greatest monarch in British history.

Very interesting,

yes the German resistance (well, the German resistance was not totally monolithic) did indeed go through the Vatican as a way to attempt to negotiate with Britain for an end to a horrible war, proposing an alternative post-Hitler government. The Brits however acted in bad faith towards the German resistance. Allies of Uncle Joe, you know . . . as was Roosevelt. Sad sad times those were. Many lives could have been saved. With the right negotiators at the right place at the right time.

The German resistance also worked through Sweden, and anywhere they thought they could get to the Allies with their message that Hitler had to be and could be stopped . . .

Here you go: http://catholicarrogance.org/Catholic/RC_scandal-2.html

On April 20, 1939, (Archbishop) Orsenigo was Pope Pius XII’s official representative at Adolf Hitler’s birthday celebration, a tradition initiated by Pope Pius XII, when he preceded Orsenigo as Papal Nuncio to Germany. Each year, in the name of the Catholic bishops and the dioceses in Germany, April 20, Cardinal Bertram of Breslau sent “warmest congratulations to the Führer, with “fervent prayers which the Catholics of Germany are sending to heaven on their altars.”

The Left still tries to paint Pius XII’s silence as complicity when in fact he was doing things covertly right under the Nazi’s and Fascist’s noses.

the play was part of the KGB’s battle against the Catholic church.

See this article from “The Sunday Times” of Feb 17, 2008, it begins:

“THE KGB hatched a plot to smear the late Pope Pius XII as an antisemitic Hitler supporter and fostered a controversial play that tarnished the pontiff, according to the highest-ranking Soviet bloc intelligence officer to have defected to the West.”

“Former Lieutenant-General Ion Mihai Pacepa, who headed the Romanian secret service before defecting in 1978, has broken a silence of nearly half a century to reveal that he was involved in the operation code-named Seat12, a Kremlin scheme launched in 1960 to portray Pius XII “as a cold-hearted Nazi sympathiser”.”

“The result, according to Pacepa, was the 1963 play The Deputy, by Rolf Hochhuth, which argued that Pius XII had supported Hitler and encouraged him to launch the Holocaust. It ignited a furious debate over Pius XII’s attitude towards Hitler.”

History hasn't looked kindly on the Catholic Church during WW II.

It was a good start on an article then it went downhill from there.

Hmmm, what is that supposed to mean? I suppose it's protocol for ambassadors etc. to give birthday wishes to the country's leader.

Eugenio Pacelli (the future Pope Pius XII) was tha Papal Nuncio to Germany starting in the 20's. He had taken to making statements against Hitler/Naszis, long before anyone thought they had a chance to take control.

Later, when Pacelli was Secretary of State for the Vatican,. he convinced Pius XI to release an encyclical called Mit Brennender Sorge. Encyclicals are released in Latin, this one was re;leased in German. Hmmm, I wonder why? Maybe because it was specifically opposing Nazism?

Anyone who actually did basic research into the events of the 20s and 30s would know Pacelli and Hitler were enemies before the Nazi Party was even a political force in Germany.

When I lived in a gay community by the Jersey Shore, I noticed that during book sales (and we had a lot of them), “The Deputy” was being sold consistently. One look at it told me all I knew. Undoubtedly, it started prior to that but has been taken up by the left-wing gay, communist community in which I have now escaped.

Thanks for your info!

After the War, Golda Meir publicly came out and recognized Pius XII's efforts. Sorry, I do not believe she was a Nazi dupe. I think she'd be shocked by what is being said about him now.

During the Nazi terror, When fearful martyrdom came to our people in the decade of Nazi terror, the voice of the Pope was raised for the victims. The life of our times was enriched by a voice speaking out on the great moral truths, above the tumult of daily conflict. We mourn a great servant of peace.” – Golda Meir, Israeli Prime Minister, in a cable to the Vatican expressing condolences at the death of Pius XII, 1958.

Why as everyone forgotten this? I just saw a You Tube in which Christopher Hitchens accused the Catholic Church of helping Nazis kill Jews in 1938! These lies are perpetrated every day here in America and abroad and makes me weep with the dishonesty! Ignorant Jews and athiests lap up this vicious stuff and no one - much less evangelicals and leftists and ignorant Catholics - push back.

One man’s heretic is another man’s greatest monarch in British history.

Most heretics have enjoyed worldly success in one form or another.
