“I am sure they are hoping that they will be able to attract advertisers, now that a reason for staying out of it has been removed,” said one former top executive at Playboy.
Playboy’s new look is likely to set up a clash with Maxim, another title aimed at young men and trying to soften its image to attract more ads.
Both titles are said to be losing money.
To turn around Playboy’s fortunes, experts say, the title will have to ramp up circulation after letting it run down for years....
Newsstand sales — the most lucrative form of circulation revenue for publishers — today accounts for only around 30,000 copies a month for Playboy....

What do they think people buy it for? The articles?
If they think the millions of testosterone-crazed young males bought or stole Playboy for the articles, they're sadly misinformed. Even though their circulation has supposedly dipped to under a million subscribers, I doubt they buy it for the articles.
Other than Miss America and Miss USA.

See, now if the local liberated hippy single mom who lived up the street had had a box filled with pictures of THAT - it probably wouldn’t have turned the neighborhood little league team into a herd of masturbatory monkeys.

I had just come back from Vietnam. My all time fave Playmate was Carol O’Neal, Miss June 1972. Googled her recently & realized she is near exactly my age. She now looks like a happy grandmother, because she probably is.
