Cruz isn’t the second choice of Trump voters
Hot Air ^ | 10/14/2015 | Henry Olsen

The FOX national poll also asked the first/second choice question, but did not provide direct tabs of the share of Trump backers who chose Cruz, et al, as their second choice. It did, however, do the next best thing: it gave the entire GOP race standings if Trump were out. Trump polled 26 percent in the overall standings and Cruz polled 8 percent. Without Trump, Cruz rose to 11 percent, a three point gain. Three divided by 26 is about 11 1/2 percent, nearly identical to the thirteen percent from the other two polls.

This might seem to be too low given that Cruz is actively courting Trump and his backers. But the PPP poll suggests that effort is not yet paying off. Cruz’s name ID among Trump backers is only 47 percent positive, 37 percent negative. He still has a lot of selling to do before Trumpets think “Ted Cruz” when their thoughts stray from His Hairness.

Now, there are plenty of scenarios in which I can imagine Cruz will do well with current Trump supporters. If Cruz breaks through in Iowa and Bush recovers to win New Hampshire, for example, he could pick up loads of Trump supporters in an ensuing one-on-one. Or if Ben Carson, who currently is the Trump backers’ favorite second choice, fades, perhaps the junior Senator from Texas will gain those voters love.

I like Ted Cruz but lets face it he’s just not polling well. He was not polling well before Trump got in the race and he’s not polling well now. The average GOP voter is either middle of the road or just slightly right of center. Same goes for the average Independent voter. Ted is sadly too conservative for most of the base. If nominated I’m not at all sure he would win the general election.

Trump will pull from all sectors. There are a lot of Dems that will vote for him. We need a win not a close second in 2016.

Hey C.W. I still think Cruz has an excellent shot at the nod. But, I agree that he has to get more aggressive in communication especially at the debates. Although, I still think some candidates dropping out of the race will help Cruz get more air time at the debates. I have to disagree with you on one thing, I did like his appearence on Hannity.

Yes he has a good shot - but I think he needs to move faster than his people do. Yes, others will drop out, and that could help him. On Hannity, I thought he was just full of cliches ("....the American people...blah blah....the American people...blah blah......what the American people want is ....blah blah blah." Didn't like it at all.

We need a win not a close second in 2016.

You might get the win with Trump, but not necessarily the Conservative change we all want, at which point, we're back to lesser evil.

I’m a realist. If Trump can accomplish 25% of what he wants to do I’ll be happy. Securing the border and kicking out as many illegals as possible is my numero uno objective. Obuttlick is planning to bring 200,000 of those Godless Muslims here and Trump is going to ship them back. Trump wants to re-negotiate all of our trade deals which is absolutely needed and his tax plan is a real jobs creator. What more do you want?

Trump cannot overturn Roe v Wade or Obergfell. If that’s your hangup get over it.

he has done nothing to explain that speech to the Senate on H1B visa expansion, or "refudiate" the contents of the speech

In fact, Cruz reiterated his pro-H-1B-expansion stand this July: “Cruz: ‘Proud to Defend’ Trump, Expand H-1B Visas For ‘Educated,’ ‘Talented’ Job Creators” - http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3309118/posts

The similarities aren't glaring, but there's a lot more compatibility than most care to admit.

Obama: A committed ideologue who was a College Law Professor, 1 term state senator and a 1st term US Senator.... that doesn't sound like Carson or Trump at all.

Sure he has ..but it’s not about explaining...it’s about knowing they’re going to increase HIB visas regardless.. and getting the best deal...which is why Cruz entered his documents to get the best of the scientists, math, and high end workers..not just any who apply but specific people on the higher end of it....as Trump said too...we want to keep them here.

I wont claim to actually know.

Its possible though that his handlers have taken a page from Toesucker. Im talking about the idea that you don't want to be in the lead until the field is whittled down and youre into the primaries. The person in the lead gets "all the roach spray" and that supposedly creates an opportunity for someone to spring out from behind. It would save money to be somewhat low key at this point and it would help avoid a lot of attacks.

Whether its a GOOD plan is a whole 'nother discussion...

https://www.numbersusa.com/blog/does-ted-cruz-deserve-his-very-good-amnesty-rating

“But it has been Cruz’s actions in the Senate that provide the best evidence of his opposition to amnesties. Perhaps nobody has fought harder than Cruz to stop amnesties in the Senate over the last three years.”

Give me the guy who has fought against amnesty every single time rather than the guy who makes speeches while illegals work at sites owned by his corporations.

There are just too many similarities between them.

They both breathe air.
Neither one has been to Antarctica.
Both speak English.

yep

I wish people would wake up about the Cheap Labor movement. It's killing the middle class.

While that hurts, it is the 'cheap stuff from elsewhere' movement that has put the middle class on life support.

Cruz would be my first choice, then Trump.

But I do say that I've never seen a bigger pain in the ass than Cruz and his follow up badgering for more money after donating.
Endless mail and emails to the point I regret ever donating (four times).

No more, he's too much. I have been bothered so much by the Cruz organization that I now regret donating because it is like I became a target of a stalker.

Carson is a doctor and is neither a politician or major successful businessman. He has headed some great foundations in charity to help the community though.
I don't think this cycle he has gathered the experience to be either President of VP but I think he could develop into it in 4 or so years.

Trump at least has been a major success with business in the areas we are sucking gas in and though not a politician his real world experience making him billions is what we need at this time.

The reality is that 2nd choices usually don’t rank much differently than the first choices. The idea that the voters for one candidate are hugely lopsided in favor of another candidate as distinct from the overall 1st choice rankings is simply not how reality tends to work.

From what I’ve seen in polls though, Trump is not the 2nd choice of too many, due to his high negatives. That’s why he loses in a head-to-head match-up against so many other GOP candidates.

As long has the Constitution is the law of the land, Cruz will never be president of the USA. The Rats will eat him alive on the NBC issue. Natural born citizen status requires a tad more than a single American parent. If a single America parent is the requirement than there are thousands of NBCs living in the middle east some of which no doubt are fighting for ISIS. I would rather not have an ISIS leader running for POTUSA.

Trump's clear advantage in all this has been a combination of name recognition that goes way back and, of the GOP contenders, overwhelming media coverage. He knows how to get free advertising, and gets it for every one of the events in which the media attack him for attacking one of their sacred cows.

Ted Cruz has not had that advantage, and with the exception of die hard political junkies, had little name recognition going into this.

As a rule, the media avoid much mention of Cruz, downplaying him.

If the GOP base had a choice of voting for someone "too conservative" versus the uberLiberal, who would they choose?

We really don't know. That is a 'problem' the GOP has not had in my lifetime, and I have 8 great grandchildren.

The 'lesser evil' has prevailed because they are supposedly 'electable', with the exception of Ronald Reagan. The lesser evil has sapped voters of the ardent desire to support the party, and of the notion that voting will make a difference in the way business is conducted in DC. All people have seen is the inexorable march toward totalitarian socialism.

Even the actions of Liberals have changed significantly in that time, going from the likes of JFK and HHH (who at least liked America) to the knee-jerk Communists who populate the Democrat Party today.

I would hope Americans would not vote for the Liberal in that situation, but there is only one way to find out.

We don't have much wiggle room for any more lesser evils to steer things into the abyss, so it wouldn't make much difference if a moderate or a liberal get the job. Only a conservative can hope to turn things around.

I don’t see it for Carson and Obama either.

Carson is a million times better than Obama.
