The FOX national poll also asked the first/second choice question, but did not provide direct tabs of the share of Trump backers who chose Cruz, et al, as their second choice. It did, however, do the next best thing: it gave the entire GOP race standings if Trump were out. Trump polled 26 percent in the overall standings and Cruz polled 8 percent. Without Trump, Cruz rose to 11 percent, a three point gain. Three divided by 26 is about 11 1/2 percent, nearly identical to the thirteen percent from the other two polls.
This might seem to be too low given that Cruz is actively courting Trump and his backers. But the PPP poll suggests that effort is not yet paying off. Cruzs name ID among Trump backers is only 47 percent positive, 37 percent negative. He still has a lot of selling to do before Trumpets think Ted Cruz when their thoughts stray from His Hairness.
Now, there are plenty of scenarios in which I can imagine Cruz will do well with current Trump supporters. If Cruz breaks through in Iowa and Bush recovers to win New Hampshire, for example, he could pick up loads of Trump supporters in an ensuing one-on-one. Or if Ben Carson, who currently is the Trump backers favorite second choice, fades, perhaps the junior Senator from Texas will gain those voters love.

I’ll take a Z of that...
Cruz also supports legalization of the lawbreakers without a path to citizenship, i.e., he favors amnesty.
Carson seems nice enough, but he isn’t presidential material.
Also don’t lke the fact his wife works for Goldman Sachs! She is now “on leave” from there. You think that might have something to do with his H1-B stance?
I don’t see a Trump implosion coming anytime soon.
Too many similarities between Pharaoh and Moses - Moses didn’t want God to pick him.
Too many similarities between Peter and Judas - Peter denied Jesus three times.
Or your words: “Too many similarities between Carson or Cruz and Obama . . .”
Sorry, but I’m not seeing it like that. Pharaoh made the lives of the Jews bitter with hard bondage and then ordered the midwives to kill any sons born to the Jews. That is far worse than Moses’ temporary reluctance to oppose Pharaoh.
Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. That is far worse than Peter’s temporary fear of the mob.
Obama is trying to compel decent people to pay for abortions that violate their religious beliefs, to compel good people to participate in gay “marriages”, to disarm the people so they can be oppressed without any hope of resisting tyranny, to move us toward socialism starting with expensive but low-quality socialized medicine, and to destroy every aspect of American freedom and especially of the Bill of Rights. I’m not sure what similarities you see between Carson or Cruz and the closest thing on earth today to the Antichrist - Obama - but I think it is worth distinguishing between imperfect (which describes everyone) and evil incarnate (which applies to Obama but does not describe decent people, including Carson, Cruz, or Trump).
“My 80 percent friend is not my 20 percent enemy”
- Ronald Reagan
I do not agree with Trump, Carson, or Cruz 100% of the time, but I will support an 80% friend who agrees on the key issues of our time (No Amnesty, No Obamacare, and No gun grabbing) rather than treating them as my 20% enemy.
I pray you are right!
Carson and obama I can see but Cruz and obama? No way. obama HATES our Constitution. Cruz loves our Constitution. No comparison there.
Good for him, he has money in the bank and he had an impressive haul last quarter. But, I have also heard that he has a high burn rate on the money he’s bringing in, it’s not Rand Paul bad, but his burn rate is not as low as Cruz’s.
Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.
The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight, he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Mr. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.
Mr. Cruz said recent polling indicated that people outside Washington support some reform, including legal status without citizenship. He said he was against naturalization because it rewarded lawbreakers and was unfair to legal immigrants. It also perpetuates illegal crossings, he added.
Besides barring citizenship while instituting some level of legalization for those here already, Mr. Cruz has proposed increasing the number of green cards awarded annually, to 1.35 million from 675,000. He also wants to eliminate the per-country limit that he said left applicants from countries like Mexico, China and India hamstrung when they tried to gain legal entry to this country.
Hey C.W. I still think Cruz has an excellent shot at the nod. But, I agree that he has to get more aggressive in communication especially at the debates. Although, I still think some candidates dropping out of the race will help Cruz get more air time at the debates. I have to disagree with you on one thing, I did like his appearence on Hannity.
The good news is that both Carson and Cruz likely have better places outside of the White House... Cruz on the Supreme Court, and Carson as Surgeon General in charge of dismantling ObamaCare.
I think Carson is a parking lot for Trump votes.
If you have any influence, or an ear to talk into, let them know their current campaign advice is falling flat.
“Depends on Trump...if he leaves the race and then endorses Cruz, the numbers will go higher.”
So you are thinking that the higher Trump surges the more likely he will get out of the race? Okaaaay! Nice dream. LOL!
Both Trump and Cruz have already taken all the media and BOTH parties can throw at them.
I think the elephant in the room that nobody really wants to talk about is the fact that the Black President was an experiment that just did not work. The chances of another Black President in the next 100 years is probably zero. The hard truth is that when its all said and done the average American voter wants to see a good looking white man back in the Oval Office.
While I'm enjoying watching him single-handedly thwart the GOP-E, Cruz is the real Conservative in the race, and if Trump paves the way for him to win the nomination and then the election, then that is what FReepers should be aiming for, not a Trump presidency.
There is an old saying that applies here---"Careful what you wish for, you might just get it."
Well, I think that with Obama many people confuse "black" with pro-Islamic, anti-Christ, pro-homosexual, anti-capitalist, pro-Communist."
I would hope that people would realize that his skin color has nothing to do with his presidency. He would still be the same if he looked white like his mother.
