Major Gun Trafficking Bust in NYC Highlights Flow of Guns From State With Looser Gun Laws
ABC ^ | 10/14/15 | Aaron Katersky

Amid a raging national debate on guns, a bust in New York City highlights a problem for police in crime-plagued urban areas. While officers can control illegal gun sales in their cities, they have been at a loss to stop the flow of firearms from places with looser laws. Eight people from three states have been arrested and charged with buying guns legally in Atlanta and Pittsburgh and bringing them to New York, sometimes aboard low-cost Chinatown buses. “I sell guns,” alleged trafficking ringleader Michael Bassier was caught saying on a wiretap, according to prosecutors. “I’ve got two Mac 10s

A mini-Fast and Furious?

Sometimes the timing of these types of events seems to good to be unplanned.

Just sayin’

I’m pretty sure the Constitution allows interstate commerce.

How long do you have to own a gun before it’s not a straw purchase?
Just asking.

If the police were not tasked to act like gangsters, like enforcing patently unconstitutional “laws” — OR IF THEY SIMPLY WERE TO REFUSE to let themselves be turned into thugs and bandits, then this purported problem wouldn’t arise in the first place.

What are the ‘authorities’ going to do when plastics and composites become durable enough that 3D-printer manufactured firearms are viable? Right now with a 3D-printer and a small milling machine, a viable small caliber pistol is doable. Trust me, the thugs know this. They may make stupid life decisions but many are not dumb.

“What the hell is a “low cost Chinatown bus?”

They are buses that run from the Chinatown in one city to the Chinatown in another.

They started to serve Chinese people, but were so much cheaper that now it more non-Chinese who ride them.

From New York to DC (with a stop in Philly), it costs like $25 dollars, vs. $100 on Amtrak. And you get wifi onboard.

So? I don’t give a rat’s ass if guns are going from the South to NYC. Doesn’t give them a right to restrict MY rights!

That’s what the Democrats always like to say, isn’t it?

O’Neill said 90 percent of guns used in crimes in New York City come from someplace else.

Duh. Of course they do. Doesn't New York City have like ONE GUN STORE???!!

Actually, the Constitution allows the FedGov to regulate interstate commerce. But this should technically mean that the individual states may not be allowed to regulate it contrary to federal law. But IANAL and this is a very confusing area of law to me. Some laws, like California’s law to stop goose liver from being sold, was overturned by federal court on some IC grounds. Yet at the same time, many other laws including the 2A laws (maybe not yet challenged?) stand. How could goose liver be protected and guns which are specifically called out as protected not be?

And good question - when is it a private party sale vs a straw purchase? We have a whole bunch of really bad laws and we tend to favor these type of brainless no tolerance rules that ignore context, intent and just say “you do X you get Y” no matter what other factors are at play. Stupid is as stupid does.

NYC cops paid these mutts $130 k for 500 junk guns? Yeah, the Mayor & police chief got a photo op, but murders by crooks, drug dealers & bad guys continue unabated. Eight mutts who probably were induced by some undercover cop to go and get guns for money now go to jail for a few years.

Meanwhile, Israel has a crisis of terrorists knifing people in the streets. They can spend our tax dollars regulating guns and there is always the knife. The knife is the silent killer.

What’s fueling urban America’s ‘gun violence’ is drugs. Every snort of cocaine or injection of heroin or MDMA tab that winds up in the body of a metropolitan-area liberal Democrat originates from thousands and thousands of miles away, but is ultimately sold via illicit street transactions through multiple hands before it ends up in some liberal’s bloodstream.

The violence happens between all those hands it changes through, but since the liberal is merely the end user they absolve themselves of the distant Mexican beheadings and the hideous Asian heroin trade underworld all the way to young black men blasting the crap out of one another just a couple miles away from the liberal’s hipster loft in the funky eclectic midtown where the white people live.

Fat chance liberal druggies make any sort of connection between their ‘recreational use’ and sky high incarceration rates of young black men; they don’t even see how their anti-tobacco crusade had a role to play in Eric Garner getting strangled to death by NYPD undercover cops for selling loose cigarettes because their prohibitive tax policies made a viable underground market for it and created special police squads to crack down on illicit sales. They wanted more government, they got more government.

No, it must be those racist police, liberals say. Couldn’t be anything liberals are responsible for, no sir. Black men killing each other in Chicago at the rate of 600+ per year because of the violence in the illicit drug trade? Why that’s all on Wayne LaPierre and the NRA, not the liberal drug money that makes selling and smuggling illicit controlled substances more attractive to young black ghetto dwellers than a job.

Liberals believe that SUV drivers don’t think they’re responsible for global warming because they don’t perceive their own Volkswagen turbo-diesel crossover as a problem, but they refuse to make a connection about their own personal drug use as the reason black kids fill America’s prisons and are getting their asses shot to pieces just across town over in the ‘hood.

The only time they pretend to shed crocodile tears about drug-related deaths is when the police find a celebrated young actor like Philip Seymour Hoffman stone dead in his swanky loft surrounded by hundreds of empty packets of street heroin that were brought to him by a long string of operators in the violent underground drug trade stretching deep into Central Asia where it originated. God only knows how many bodies there were on that Heroin he died from, not including his own.

Yeah sure, you silly liberal twats: New York City-style gun control adopted in places like Billings Montana and Yerington Nevada and Terra Haute Indiana will stop ‘gun violence’ in New York City just as effectively as big city anti-narcotics laws prevented the demise of River Phoenix and Peaches Geldof.

My belief is that every person vocally in favor of gun control first piss into a cup to be submitted for drug screening so we can first see who the hypocrites are.
