Man Gets Year in Prison for 'Swatting'

Swatting, for those unfamiliar, is when people call law enforcement to report a fake emergency to get SWAT deployed to a specific location, like someone’s home—something Lil Wayne was a victim of earlier this year—sometimes resulting in victims being attacked or arrested by police. Swatting is now a federal crime, for which one Connecticut man is facing one year in prison for.

Matthew Tollis a 22-year-old arrested last year in September is getting prison time for his involvement in six swatting incidents in 2014, according to the Department of Justice.

-snip-

Tollis was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison by a judge, in addition to three years of supervised release and 300 hours of community service.

I think 5 years for a Swatting call is a good start.

Now we’re getting there, given that swatting is de facto attempted murder.

No doubt liberals would consider it to be a non violent crime since the swatters are only trying to inspire someone else to commit an act of violence.

Had an incident like that here. This weird guy who once ran for Mayor of Pittsburgh was recently sentenced for making phony 911 calls:

GMTA. I was also thinking 5 years sounds appropriate. That’s one jury I would LIKE to be on. Max sentence possible.

New terms of punishment for relatively new crimes when done on this scale. So since he was hacked and swatted, he decided to do it to innocent parties.
Big Fail! We also need to update laws that regulate and restrict Drone use. Firefighters and pilots should be able to instantly destroy a nosey drone that invades their airspace.

Why just pilots and firefighters?

Why not *any* property owner?

Swatting?
It has that ebonic flair to it, don’t you know. Bound to catch. Just sayin.

It should be the same penalty as attempted capital murder. If someone gets killed in the process, up it to capital murder.

A firefighters air space? How did the firefighter get ownership of someone else’s property?

I don’t agree with those “swatting” getting prison time, until Swat Teams get prison time, along with the Judge who rubber stamped the warrant, when they go to the wrong address.

Hell yeah, and they should also shoot on sight anyone flying a kite, model airplane or model rocket. Because DRONE.

He thought it was funny and now he is a felon for a crime that will set off the alarm with every potential employer for the rest of his life. He will also find it difficult to rent an apartment, get a mortgage, or even get car insurance.

Every deployment of SWAT puts lives at risk. Not only the lives of the people at the target home, but of the officers and even totally uninvolved neighbors who might be wounded or killed in the event of an accidental discharge.
