Russia using electronic warfare to cloak its actions in Syria from Isis and Nato

Fed up of the West's indecisiveness on dealing with the ongoing situation in Syria, Russia is now providing direct military air support to Syria, and it is using electronic warfare to jam Islamic State's (IS) communications, as well as to prevent Nato from detecting what it is up to, according to an electronic warfare expert.

Electronic warfare is the ability to manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum in order to sense where enemy targets are so that you can attack the enemy first, or to prevent the enemy from attacking you. Examples of things you can do with electronic warfare include communications jamming, radar jamming, reconnaissance and countermeasures using infrared, radio and electro-optical frequencies.

This has implications beyond Syra, and we need to find a counter method. But since we have Obama, we are in deep doodoo

Everyone knows we still have Ostinko over a year longer.

What else can be said?

I dunno, this sounds like an intel goldmine. The Soviets always kept their EW capabilities close to the vest and undercover. Here they are in penny-ante skirmish showing their hole cards. At least we can salvage something out of this debacle.

On the good side, using this technology reveals its capabilities to NATO and the US. That gives us a leg up on counter-counter measures.

In a related note, Russia has been carrying on a covert war inside Turkey with targeted assassinations since the Chechnya war. This has been a very warm, cold war as Turkey is actively supporting Chechnya rebels who are, in turn, the core fighters in ISSIS. The escalations seem to be barreling out of control. Turkey shoots down a fighter plane. This puts all western flights over Syria in deep trouble as you can be assured Russia will seek to shoot down an allied plane in a typical tit-for-tat.

Our best possible move is to remove all US planes from the area.

The way it’s going, after the horrible policies of the US/EU/NATO, their ability to salvage western civilization is questionable.

"Our best possible move is to remove all US planes from the area."

Worth repeating. However, Turkey is a NATO member. If it is "attacked" by the Russians and invokes NATO's charter, the other signatories, the US in particular, are obliged to enter the fray in it's defense.

Worst of all, Obama has blinded and deafened US intelligence while he has taken away our means to defend our country.

“However, Turkey is a NATO member. If it is “attacked” by the Russians and invokes NATO’s charter, the other signatories, the US in particular, are obliged to enter the fray in it’s defense. “

Prior to Pear Harbor the Japanese bombed a US warship on a Chinese river. Prior to the US entrance into WWII a German sub torpedoed an American destroyer. Incidents only rise to the level of provocations when politicians want them to.

I can see Obama instructing NATO to strike Russia. But the Europeans are not stupid or crazy. They will say no. Obama is loath to act alone. So, we’re back to sending a strongly worded letter and proclaiming Russia is on “the wrong side of history.”

This isn’t their only version of jammer. There are several SPN varieties as well as other satellite jammer systems.

They never throw anything away.

Russia using electronic warfare to cloak its actions in Syria from Isis and Nato

Certainly to be expected. Why expose men and materiel to possible danger for no reason? (Unless of course you're a 'brilliant' community organizer that hates the military)

This affords NATO the opportunity to observe russian tactics and operations - just in case.

Sounds like they’ve lapped us in this technology, at least. Well, Russia spent 25 years modernizing their military thanks to OPEN ACCESS to Western Technology, they will show some results - as they are very smart people.

During that same time, we figured the Cold War was won, so why bother caring...just figure out how to integrate LGBTs and decommission planes and ships was our top priority - along with finding money for Sandra Flukes condoms.

Now our Chickens have come home to Roost. Hopefully we get the message to KEEP CLEAR of Ukraine and wherever else Russia may feel like rolling into in Europe - at least until we modernize a bit.

Why do we need a counter method? One only has to look at the map of the Middle East to really understand what is going on. With Turkey now an Islamic state, if Syria falls to ISIS, ISIS then has a clear path the three Russian beachheads as well as Iran.

Russia is propping up their firewall. Nukes to Iran by Obama is a feint as it puts Israel in the crosshairs. Russian generals meeting in Tel Aviv probably was an exchange of information and a guarantee that those nukes aren’t happening. Which explains the Iranian general being killed the other day.

Russia needs the Iranians to focus on the bigger picture which is their enemy is the Saudis and not the Jews or the Christians. Of course by having the Iranians focus on Israel, the Sunnis in ISiS and Al Queada remove a big obstacles tin the Iranians protecting Assad.

By the way, Obama is Sunni. Sort of makes sense now.

Looks like a 1L269 Krasuha-2 advancec electronic jammer

From a ??Russian?? website: {http://defense-studies.blogspot.com/2013/09/vietnam-interest-in-krasuha-2-advanced.html}

“1L269 Krasuha-2 mode voltage electronic jamming module combines standardized ground to protect air radar target before the formation of the battalion electronic warfare. This is a system of electronic jamming Russian generation newly completed State inspection and starting equipment in 2009. The technical details of the system are still Krasukha Russia kept secret, just know that they are mounted on 4 axle chassis BAZ-6910-022. The system by Gradient Research Institute developed and manufactured in Union Scientific-production Kvant.”

“An electronic warfare systems that are more advanced version 1L269 Krasuha-4, has a range of 150-300 km. “

“Krasuha 1L269-2 activities similar general principles of electronic warfare stations, which emit signals are obtained from an opponent, then positioning and conducted radio frequency radiation (radio frequency interference) with high-capacity, application processing and electronic warfare systems, control systems, communications and intelligence of the enemy, as well as changes in the quality of information, quality traffic and to create an environment mess with the transmission of power dominated by the radio station emits electronic, to protect their electronic systems to the impacts of the measures electronic warfare enemy.”

This system is also apparently used with the S-300PMU2 and has some sort of anti-radar stealth coating.

It could be an intel goldmine if NSA and other military intel organizations are allowed to do their job and use that intel for our advantage.

The chances of that happening with Barack Obamadon and ValJar in charge are slim and none.

Uhhhh

Most Soviet and other countries expenditures in Defense are in truth the result of our Military and other agencies presence and probing them...

Have researched it and the numbers are staggering, we spend multiples more than others, you have to stack them together to get close...

OK, so what

Back in time to Eisenhower’s warning about the Military-Industrial Complex and its “need to Feed”. Back in the late 30’s Roosevelt’s New Deal had lost steam and a new focus was needed, supply the Brits and whomever and wow jobs for everyone...

Post war...

Keep vigilant, the enemy is near...

Pump the balloon

I was thinking if I had the capability I'd like to field test it in the field and synch it up with my naval, air and ground capabilities in order to work out the bugs. Then a nice after action report and upgrade tactics and equipment as needed.

Cause Kaliningrad Oblast is just sitting up there all lonely with those mean old Baltic States picking on ethnic Russians and their little seaports/sub bases. We all know weak, stupid old Putin, who doesn't know as much as our brilliant President Obama, wouldn't dare think of putting those 3 little countries back under the Soviet blanket.

He called up 150,000.. the Chinese are parrying with us in the Pacific with man made "islands" in order to secure shipping lanes and squeeze Asia. I just wished that our education system hadn't been destroyed and that World History and Western Civ had been mandatory in colleges/high schools.

"Peace" is an aberration in the course of normal human history. These pathetic wretches that "protest" for peace, yap on and on about "world peace", hold concerts for "peace", wear little ribbons, badges, bracelets etc for "peace" simply don't realize that the reason evil is "at peace" is because of it's fear for death and destruction if it becomes "unpeaceful" .

The geniuses from Harvard and the butt kissers in the Pentagon/Intel/US press/ are just the types that think if a guy comes at you with a gun and wants your money, he'll go away if you give him money.... but just maybe the guy will kill you anyway, because that's what evil bastards do. Signs don't stop evil, laws don't stop evil, speeches don't stop evil, agreements don't stop evil... Men with balls and bullets stop evil.
