Ben Carson has been bragging all week that he would charge head-on at gunmen, if he ever encountered one and now he says he actually has been faced with that threat.
The Republican presidential candidate said Thursday morning that he had a gun drawn on him while visiting a Baltimore fried chicken restaurant, reported The Hill.
I have had a gun held on me when I was in a Popeyes organization, Carson said on Karen Hunters Sirius XM Radio program.
Guy comes in, put the gun in my ribs, Carson said.
Carson said twice this week that the victims in last weeks Oregon community college shooting should have tried to tackle the gunman and would not just stand there and let him shoot me.
Thats exactly how Army veteran Chris Mintz got shot seven times and wounded during the massacre although Carson admits he had never heard of him until a reporter asked.
So what happened when Carson allegedly faced just such a threat? He directed the gunmans attention to an employee of the fast food restaurant.
I just said, I believe that you want the guy behind the counter, Carson said.
The retired brain surgeon did not explain what happened next.

I know this Popeye’s. It is katy-corner from the hospital. And yes, totally believable it would be held up.
As for the doc’s tactic that time I say: whatever works.
I’ll probably get flamed for this but eh. whatever. Carson does have that doctor’s arrogant flair about him. I’d bet he parks his car so it takes up three spaces.
As for the docs tactic that time I say: whatever works.IOW, his hypocrisy went right over your head.
Profiles in courage.
No flames here. He’s a phony.
What a stupid story filled with misleading statements which indicate either malice or totally misunderstanding what Dr. Carson said.
Carson’s statement that a better way to stop the gunman in such a situation [when no one else has a gun] is for the people together to rush the perp, the concept being that although some may be killed, the majority will be saved. That is a worthy concept, and Carson is not the first one who has stated this. For several years, the idea that a roomful of people would allow a gunman to simply shoot them one-by-one, has been discussed as to how to react - and the consensus of most people is to rush the gunman to subdue him/her, and so save most of the people.
It is really not that difficult a concept to understand - unless you are an all out liberal, that is.
“I was in a Popeyes organization,

Who talks like that? A Popeye’s organization?
” ..... the victims in last weeks Oregon community college shooting should have tried to tackle the gunman .... “

It is silly for him to even go there.
A robbery is a bit different than a jihad attack. In one you’re going to lose some cash. In another, you know you’re about to die. In that case it makes sense to take a chance.
"....better than saying Olive Oil talked him out of it"
I've never been to a Popeye's that was organized.
What hypocrisy? The sound course of action when a robber has a gun in your ribs is different from the sound course of action when a maniac or jihadi is methodically gunning down all people within his line of fire. Numerous people with military tactical experience have pointed out that Carson’s advice for the latter circumstance is sound (if one cannot flee avoiding the attacker’s line of fire). His behavior in the anecdote was hardly heroic, but seems to have worked. Heroism when the gun is already in your ribs is likely to end in a rather pointless death.
One more thing - the writer states that Dr. Carson was bragging. That is a word which is used deliberately to malign the good doctor.
The two situations are vastly different. The first involves a gunman against a roomful of unarmed people and the gunman wants to kill them all one-by-one. Rushing the gunman makes absolute sense. The insertion of the hero in Oregon and the fact that he was shot many times is irrelevant to the story and merely bolsters the theory. One brave man - or say 5 brave people, can bring down a gunman if the will is there.
As to the story about the gunman in Popeye’s, it is a one on one situation, and a person will say or do nearly anything to turn the attention from yourself. I am not condoning his turning the attention on the server, but it is a different situation. Dr. Carson does not sound like a braggart to me.
Only restaurant/fast food joint I’ve been in where they have the 2” thick plexiglass and double doors like at banks to transfer the food to the customers. I believe this was in Las Vegas
You can’t be chicken if you go to a Popeyes.
I’m sorry but this guy is nuts. Goes to church on Saturday, and talk about low energy!
Like his honesty, but he wouldn’t be effective as a bureaucracy slayer or strong man.
What this country needs is lots and lots of new mental institutions.
Put him in charge of them.
Remember that we are all surrounded by the enemy everyday when we step outside, and that enemy is the democratic voter.
Until they are disenfranchised or rounded up, we will continue to have problems.
Imagine someone having the audacity to vote for an EVIL MONSTER like Hillary Clinton and just walk around unscathed and unfettered.
