Complete Headline: Breaking the Kennedy code of silence: Patrick goes on national TV to expose his family's secrets as he launches book describing how 'disabling alcoholism' killed his father Ted, his mom and his sister
Patrick Kennedy has broken the political dynasty's 'code of silence' by describing how he turned to drink at 13 to deal with the multitude of his family's problems.
The former Congressman told CBS' 60 Minutes how his alcoholic mother Joan would walk around in a bathrobe 'inebriated' during the day while his father, Senator Ted Kennedy, would self-medicate by drinking.
The 48-year-old politician said the constant partying he was involved in even as a child was not for the family's enjoyment, but a 'relief from the pain', and described how his father's drinking got so bad they were forced to stage an intervention.
In the end, he believes 'disabling alcoholism' killed his father, mother and sister.

If he is sincere I wish him luck; but experience with the Kennedys says like all the rest he is a fake. Would you write a book about how bad your family is?
While the rum running helped, I think most of the Kennedy fortune derives from stock market fraud and manipulation the elder Kennedy engaged in during his stint as a banker. He traded on insider information, and formed syndicates where members would buy and sell stock among themselves. Once the public saw the “good performing” stocks, they would buy in as the Kennedy crew would sell, as the stocks would crater. It was this fraudster genius FDR was looking for when he selected old Joe to be the first chairman of the SEC. Once appointed, Joe made illegal, all the tricks that enriched him and friends.
And your family, Patrick, has contributed to the destruction of our country.
Mind your language, please; there are ladies present.
self medicating...sheesh!
Coming from a big Irish family, I can tell you that just about all of us could tell this tale.
He needs the money!!
BINGO !
I remember that.
You can barely walk to the bathroom on Ambien.
Only a fool or a Kennedy would try driving.
Old Joe made his dough smuggling booze.. and his heirs have been drinking like fish ever since to get rid of all the evidence.
She's dead to him
KMA. Twice.
Or are you the boss now?
Where?
The entire Kennedy family, including the much revered JFK, are scum. The women/wives in that family were totally screwed (where’s NOW and whatever the newest woman group is called)?
The much revered JFK was a failure as President. Yet, he’s glorified just because he as assassinated. Camelot was anything but.
Where was the uproar from our side about him, and his brothers, and father?
We hear about the wives, mothers. How awful they were...could you imagine being married to Ted Kennedy? Or any of his sons or any of Robert’s sons?
I hate that the Kennedy Family is considered American Royalty. I hate that JFK is revered when if he had lived he’d be a card carrying democrat as they are today.
Not only could I not imagine being married to a Kennedy, I can’t imagine being the type of woman who would say yes to the proposal. My husband, who is as Irish Catholic as the Kennedy’s (well I’d say more Catholic, husbands actually religious and has integrity) knows exactly what would happen to him if he acted Kenbedy-esq with me!
Me too.
Can’t stand what that family and the media have been allowed to get away with.
Same with the bs about MLK. We revere this traitor. Pisses me off.
” Oxycontin in aspirin containers”
Isn’t that a felony?
But this is a part of the celebrity culture that goes back further.
I would never encourage any of my daughters to allign with that family or any like them (including Bush’s, etc.). But if one did, then I’d try my best to guide.
I’m half Italian from South Philly, so it’d be like me accepting my daughters marrying (heh dating) someone in the Italian mob. Not happening. I lived it and didn’t marry it.And my parents didn’t encourage it.
I can imagine it, sorta. Two teens or twenty somethings...hanging out, falling in love...or one of my children falling for someone of another race and more importantly culture. It’s awful.
Sometimes the best thing we as parents can do is step back (hardest part for me). I step back but still say/guide a lot and hope/pray it turns out in my favor.
Parenting is HARD lol.
No, I am not the boss, but I am a lady. As a woman, I feel honor-bound to carry on the womanly tradition of promoting gentility.
Blessings to you this day.
