Netanyahu Says Ties With Russia Good, Doesn't Join Criticism of Syria Attacks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he unsure how Russia's recent military intervention in Syria will affect the situation there, but insisted that Jerusalem and Moscow were on good terms.

"We don't want to go back to the days when, you know, Russia and Israel were in an adversarial position," said Netanyahu in an interview recorded for broadcast on Sunday on "CNN's Fareed Zakaria GPS. "I think we've changed the relationship. And it's, on the whole, good."

Russia bombed the Islamic State group's Syrian stronghold Saturday and vowed to press its aerial campaign despite criticism from Washington and its allies that the military action is strengthening the jihadists.

A long-time staunch backer of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Russia began sorties over its ally Wednesday in what it said would be a prolonged bombing campaign against IS and other extremist groups.

Netanyahu met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow late last month as part of an attempt to address Israel's concerns about confrontations that could possibly occur between Israeli troops and Russian forces active in Syria.

"I went to Moscow to make it clear that we should avoid a clash between Russian forces and Israeli forces," Netanyahu said during the interview, according to Reuters.

"In Syria, I've defined my goals. They're to protect the security of my people and my country. Russia has different goals. But they shouldn't clash."

The Israeli prime minister did not join the United States and other NATO nations in criticizing Russia's taking military action in Syria.

I am no more surprised to see Netanyahu taking a position to defend Israel and the West than I was seeing Obama taking a position against Russia that put Israel and the West in mortal danger.

There’s a museum in Moscow dedicated to Jewish history in Russia. It opened a few years ago. Bibi was there for the opening, so was Putin. At the time, Bibi saw friendly gestures from Moscow, and reciprocated. It also has been noted that Jews in Russia have been treated BETTER under Putin than under Communism, the Tsars, or any other leader (although I admit, that was not a very high standard for Putin to exceed).

The days of Israel being kicked around like a sick dog owner are over. Israel will take friends where they can find them, and they didn’t see many potential ‘friends’ in the terrorists that were fighting Assad.

The Middle East is like that - it is like tracing a pattern through lace - very intricate.

LOL!

To many people equal the interests of the USA with Israel, and visa versa.

Israel has had close ties with Russia and the Soviet Union for a while now.

And the gentiles trample the holy city...

None of this is setting up in any way like our preachers have told us to watch for.

The Bear is sweeping down into Syria as foretold, alliances are changing, and something is about to unfold not quite as we imagined. But prophecy is fantasy to the unwise.

Pray for Israel

“It is largely our fault that Russia has to be so chummy with Iran and China. We have pushed them economically into those arms.”
It seems to me that Russia’s economic interest might be chaos on the Middle East. Chaos in the Middle East might lead to a rapid increase in the price of oil. Russia needs the price of oil to rise.

Good point. I don’t think it will even require chaos. I think it will put Russia in a good position to make those sorts of negotiations.

I am not saying that is the sole reason. I do think it might factor in.

This is the inevitable result of Obama’s destruction of American prestige. The man truly belongs with his fellow jihadists in Gitmo.

I thought that was a well known quote. I guess you’ve not seen it before. My Lord! Please don’t have a heart attack over a rather common quote. Take a deep breath and calm down.

“Well Netanyahu doesn’t have a problem with it. Trump doesn’t have a problem with it.”

Yeah, I think that tells you pretty much all you need to know about how to decide on the issue.

Let’s see now, Netanyahu and Trump: Russians bombing the hell out of ISIS is a good thing because it needs doing and Obama won’t do it because he supports Muslim extremist terrorism.

OR

Carly, Yeb, Hillary, Kasich: we should, in effect threaten to go to war with Russia, to force “no-fly” zones to provide “safe” corridors for the ISIS and other Muslim terrorist savages to operate in Syria, free from aerial destruction.

Hmmmm. Decision, decision ...

Not questioning the authenticity of the quote but the veracity of your implication. I quit taking deep breaths and calming down when it was the future for me, my children and the rest of the citizens of this country. Taking a breath and calming down was really in high order right before Rome burned too.

For the last 20 years, the only thing Israel has been able to depend upon from the United States is that its presidents would berate it day after day for not giving up large portions of its land to its Palestinian enemies whose goal is to throw the Israelis into the sea.

It’s very doubtful that Vladimir Putin will send his foreign ministers to Russia’s new ally Israel to attack it in the world’s media for not agreeing to a suicidal two-state solution.

It’s also doubtful that Vladimir Putin’s staff will spend their time calling Benjamin Netanyahu names like ‘’chick**t.’’

Finally, Israel has true allies — Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt — led by serious adults. I’m sure those countries, unlike the U.S., have enough respect for Israel to have located their embassies in Israel’s capital.

It looks like 5776 will be a very good year.
