If gay is now normal, why so much bondage, whipping, pony prancing, and canine behavior?

Every year San Francisco has something called the Folsom Street Fair, where gays do some very bizarre things. They dress like dogs, horses, and ponies, tie themselves up, get spanked, and more. This isn't a fringe movement thousands of homosexual (mostly men) do this. If gay is now normal, then why do they do these very strange things? (This is from the San Francisco Chronicle, as mainstream as one can get in the City by the Bay.)

Um............san Francisco? Several years ago Zombie did a photo essay (censored and un-censored versions) of this "event" with commentary. From what I remember the sfpd leo's were told to no interfere with any activities unless someone was "in danger". Totally disgusting display of open "relations" on the public view. Maybe another erf quake is in order.

I think the response of the gay lifestyle apologists would be — don’t you find these kinds of behavior among heterosexuals as well?

I believe the writer says something along those lines near the end of the article.

“Gay”?
These people are anything but gay.

It can be found, but in very private places, or places that involve a cover charge. The gays need for public exhibitionism has always amazed me, and as this little annual event shows, there are few limits to what they are willing to put before the public.

In gay ‘culture’ this kind of stuff IS normal. I grew up in Palm Springs (more gays than the Castro), this is common behavior.

I’ve never been to a gay pride parade at all. Do they exhibit these behavior in the parade?

There are people that have no clue as to just how perverse things can get. Maybe they’re better off not knowing.

Um, the idea is to transform normal into weird. It was never to bring weird back to normal. Everything progressing according to plan.

I used to not think much about gays.
My attitude was, I guess, ..’as long as they leave me alone’, but since they’ve thrown in it our faces so lately, I’ve grown to dislike them intensely.

Certainly if this is an idea of a charm offensive, it has achieved a huge fail.

In my life I have probably visited about 20 times. It used to be my favorite destination. I now loathe the city itself as much as I have the Giants and Niners.
