The family of 14-year-old Muslim student Ahmed Mohamed is planning to take legal action against the school for calling police after a teacher discovered a “homemade clock” that looked eerily similar to an explosive device, while questions continue to be raised about whether the incident was a “purposeful hoax.”
Amid comments from electronics experts who say it appears that Mohamed simply took apart a 1970s era alarm clock and reassembled it in a pencil box, Judge Andrew Napolitano said the family may face charges if the incident is proven to be a publicity stunt.
If this was part of a purposeful stunt and if the parents were involved in this and if everybody from Mark Zuckerberg to President Obama fell for this, this is not good, Napolitano said in an appearance Monday on “The Kelly File.”
After being arrested, Mohamed was invited by Obama to bring his clock to the White House, and Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, invited the student to his headquarters.
As a result of the media uproar over the incident, legal and scholarship funds were set up for Mohamed, resulting in thousands of dollars being donated — which Napolitano said could bring more troubles for the family.
If the parents were involved in the hoax, now you now have a fraud going on because money has been collected on false pretenses, he said.
The Fox News senior judicial analyst said all the attention over the case is because the student is Muslim.
“This is people overreacting because of his last name, or his skin color, or the atmosphere of fear, he told host Megyn Kelly.
We saw a clock, we assume its dangerous,” Napolitano added. “The kid who made the clock, or brought it in, has a Muslim ancestry. I wish race could be out of this, but all of that goes aside if this was some sort of a purposeful stunt.

RE: There is nothing to suggest fraud. A big lie, maybe.
What is the difference between a big lie and a fraud?
It is interesting that the family won’t allow release of information as per the mayor.
If you read the Mayor’s comments..it sounds like this is an orchestrated PR stunt
By the way, the clock is available for pickup. Instead, apparently they hired lawyers to ask for pickup. Sounds fishy.

No, the scariest part of this is that some radical will, at point in the near future, take a real bomb to school, people will look the other way as a result of this PC nonsense and our children will die in their own schools at the hands of some Muslim scumbag.
Muslims remind me of Daleks, they act the same.
If it's their religion to murder us, we can not prohibit it?
Why haven't we had an Aztec or Mayan ceremony to open congrease? Oh wait that's why we have PP.
ARII is coming. Either by us, or someone else. This obomination will not stand.
Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another person.
Lie: A statement that deviates from or perverts the truth.
Thank you, sincerely.
If indeed, the sister was suspended, there was all the more reason for the teachers to be suspicious. This happen in 2009, and I am sure some of the teachers remember it, if not told about it. Those type of events carry on in teacher lore.
The White House knew. This is just in-your-face mocking. Like the Pope has been doing with Naomi Klein and his speeches.
Hey Judge, Islam is not a race or ancestry. Any idiot can be a Muslim.
I think people make mistakes when they speak too fast.
He probably meant: I wish religion could be out of this
The Dad is a perpetual runner “in abstentia” for President of Sudan. He is currently seeking that office. What better advertising could be bought?
When the ‘incident of the alarm going off in English class’, his sister was there with the video cam running to record the infidels reactions. Perfect. Not something a 13 year old kid cooks up.
Last I heard Ahmed had not yet picked up his hoax bomb from the police station even though they told him to come get it ( his family filed a law suit claiming the police were withholding it, so the world has not yet had a good look at Ahmed’s cool clock)
Maybe he’s going to have to fly on Zuckerberg’s private jet to get the thing to Washington
Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another person.
Lie: A statement that deviates from or perverts the truth.

Looks like a Fraud could come under the general umbrella of LIE.
BTW, regarding the definition of Fraud, I don’t necessarily agree with the phrase: “ resulting in injury to another person.”
One could commit a fraud in order to further an idea or a cause without a person being injured in the process.
Also, I find the motives of Ahmed quite mysterious.
