Egypts President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said in an interview that the Mideast region needs to cooperate to defeat a worsening terrorist threat that has led to a ferocious war in Egypt and created the danger of some countries sliding into failure.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press Saturday night, el-Sissi also said that Syria should not be divided after its civil war, that the Egyptian military needs to be augmented to defeat terrorists fighting in the Sinai and Western Desert, and that efforts should be renewed to solve the Palestinian issue and expand Egypts nearly 40-year-peace with Israel to include more Arab countries.
Resolving the Palestinian question, he said, could change the face of the region and bring about enormous improvement to the situation. Im optimistic by nature and I say that there is a great opportunity.
The 60-year-old former military chief, who ran for president and assumed office in 2014 after the army ousted his predecessor Mohammed Morsi the year before, spoke with AP at a New York hotel on Saturday night after he addressed a U.N. summit that adopted new development goals for the next 15 years. He will also attend the annual ministerial meeting of the General Assembly at U.N. headquarters that begins Monday.

The Eastern world - it is exploding!
That region sure has gone south under Obama/Clinton/Kerry.
Yes, it has. Aiding and abetting.
"The last two years were a real test of the endurance and strength" of the ties with the U.S., el-Sissi said.
One cannot avoid the conclusion that these two statements, separated though they are in the interview and inverted in order above, are meant to be read together. The infiltration of the Obama White House by the Muslim brotherhood has been a reckless compromise of American national security and American national interests which can be best explained by questionable loyalties held by those in the highest levels of the White House.
Egypt is essentially a Sunni Muslim country but Iran at the eastern end of a potential axis running all the way to the Mediterranean through Syria is mostly Shia. Yet Assad in Syria has been warring against the Muslim brotherhood and has even outlawed it. Since it is clearly not in the best interest of the United States to see the strong evolution of this axis, it would seem that we should be considering a policy of dividing the Sunnis from the Shia. That would probably put America on both sides in different places, a perfect posture for this part of the world.
It’s more of Obama’s success at achieving his desired goals. He wanted to see radical Islam on the rise, overthrowing the region’s secular rulers, and he got it. Just another sign of how successful a one-time Senator can be in the powerful office of the presidency when he knows what he believes and what he wants.
Sisi is a good guy and needs help.
Obama doesn’t give a damn, and in fact roots for the other side.
Thank you “ commander soebarkho”.
Perhaps obama and the people from Twitter and Facebook and Google could show up in Egypt and bring about peace like they did when then helped bring in the terrorist muslim brotherhood.... oh wait.
I guess that means Egyptians will soon join the flood of “refugees”... And Egypt has a very large population and is not that far from Greece.
Jean Raspail (”Camp of the Saints) had given Europe till 2050... He may have been optimistic.
The EU misery loves company, I believe was created to buy some time on individual failure, all for one and one for all. Now that the refugees have added weight to the problem the collapse is definite, can they say allah is great?
Give the Sinai to the Squatters Fakestinians as their land.
That way all the radicals will be in one place and easier to bomb.
Resolving the Palestinian question, he said, could "change the face of the region and ...bring about enormous improvement to the situation. ... I'm optimistic by nature and I say that there is a great opportunity."for "resolving the Palestinian question" is meant "the Final Solution". The good news is, he's still the best case scenario for Egyptian leadership. Here's some (more) good news for the FINOs who lick clean the ass of our worst enemy, Vlad the Imploder:
