What Francis Said--And Didn't Say--To Congress
Virtue Online ^ | Sept. 24, 2015 | R.R. RENO

The repeated use of the term "dialogue" was irritating. It's a buzzword among today's technocrats. They use it as a softening word, one that signals that they're are not coming to dominate us, but instead to "listen" and play the role of "honest brokers."

At the end of the speech, Francis appealed to a spirit of solicitude for the well being of the family. But, again, he steered clear of specifics, making no mention of no-fault divorce or same-sex marriage.

He called for the abolition of the death penalty. This has been a priority for the Church going back to John Paul II.

He denounced the international arms trade, another standard Vatican trope. He prefaced this with a vague endorsement of negotiation for peace, which could be read as an endorsement of Obama's approach to Iran. No surprise there. In general, the Vatican is pro-negotiation and anti-conflict.

He called for appropriate measures to combat global warming. Again, no surprise there, given his recent encyclical.

Francis gave no support to Catholics who have fought abortion, the redefinition of marriage, doctor-assisted suicide, and other cultural issues. He also made no mention of threats to religious liberty.

Congress presently has before it specific legislation to defund Planned Parenthood and expand religious liberty (an issue tied to conflict over same-sex marriage). This is a good reason to take care. Nevertheless, complete silence on these issues demoralizes those who are on the front lines of these battles.

The only specific issues Francis mentioned before Congress are associated with progressive politics: abolition of the death penalty, global warming, and arms control. This reinforces the trends of this papacy, at least in relation to the United States. Francis discourages conservative Catholics, more by silence than anything else. He encourages progressives, both by his silences and his affirmations.

At the very moment he could have driven a stake through the heart of the abortion industry, he threw off his priest's cassock and cloaked himself in Liberal, apostate, political correctness. The comments of a hollow urn.

What he said was clear, his “human life” failed.

You’d have to be an idiot to misstate his meaning.

I love all the Catholics on TV telling us what he said and its meaning not what we heard.

Don’t be silly. Even St Paul said the Cross (about which the Pope was speaking) was a scandal and foolishness, since everybody was expecting a political Messiah who would lead them out against the Romans, and nobody was expecting somebody who would lead them out against death itself.

This was actually one of the few orthodox things this Pope said, although he seemed to be couching in terms of failing a various “social justice” initiatives, unfortunately.

Please explain what part in his "human life" did he fail?

Christ never talked down to those he was teaching.

It ended, as a light bulb, being burned out, fails. That does not signify that it didn't serve it's purpose.

Behind Francis’ façade of humility he hides a totalitarian mind. That is the reason why Francis feels such an especial attraction towards Latin American Communist tyrants, while sharing their repulse towards U.S. and what the Pope calls “economic imperialism”.

Jesus Christ and his life, humanly speaking, ended in failure, the failure of the cross.

I could understand if the pope were to leave it at, "ended in failure" because to his followers at the time that did appear to be so but to add, "the failure of the cross" and leave that just standing?

The Pope is addressing more than just catholics. This leaves the impression that the pope says the cross is a failure and that there's no salvation unto it.

The only way that someone can say that Jesus failed was too judge the life of Jesus by our own selfish terms.

Jesus failed in no way.
- He came to earth and experienced, as flesh and blood, the temptations and trials of man.
- Jesus lived a sinless life.
- Jesus willingly died as a sacrifice for our sins. He said “It is finished.” That was not an utterance of defeat, but of victory.
- Jesus rose from the grave demonstrating his power over death.

For anyone to assert that he failed does not understand the scriptures.... or deliberately corrupts the scriptures to their own selfish ends.

The pope has to understand his position, for the whole world is watching him. He wasn’t just addressing catholics but also non catholics as well. People will take him at his word if they don’t know what catholicisms teaches. And to leave the statement, “the failure at the cross” will tell non believers that the cross does not lead to salvation.

” The repeated use of the term “dialogue” was irritating. It’s a buzzword among today’s technocrats.”

The other one is “conversation “.

Every time I hear “Let’s have a conversation... “, I brace myself for an ambush or a mugging.

The Pope is doing to the Catholic church what Obama is doing to the US - fundamentally transforming it.

Dialogue is leftspeak for: NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING

It is pure manipulation of people in groups by the dialoguers and their supporters in the audience. They identify the “problem” thinkers and then craftily turn the whole group against them. That targeted person’s normal idea (which is the majority’s idea before the games begin) becomes extreme or silly.

It was used a lot in the gay movement on the public and also is used heavily by environmentalists. It’s used in public schools to manipulate parents to go along with what the Left want. Never “dialogue” with the left. Most times there is nothing sane to talk about with them.
