Chinese buy $5.3 billion in Iowa soybeans

DES MOINES | Representatives of the soybean industry and Chinese trading partners signed contracts Thursday valued at $5.3 billion.
Leaders of a large commercial delegation from China and officials from the Iowa Soybean Association and the U.S. Soybean Export Council were on hand for an official signing ceremony involving more than a dozen contracts to purchase soy products equaling 13.8 million metric tons in the 12-month marketing year running through Aug. 31, according to information provided by Gov. Terry Branstad office.
According to the Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa farmers produce 13 million to 15 million metric tons of soybeans a year.
Branstad, speaking to a symposium that included the 49-member Chinese delegation, said trade between Iowa and China has dramatically increased over the past decade with 30 percent of the soybeans produced in Iowa now going to China.

There was a time, more years ago than I want to remember, when our government actually was a facilitator on occasion, instead of a destructive force. Before I die I would certainly like to see those times return.
Except for Kikkoman soy sauce, made in Japan for 500 years (company families go back to 1603). It’s so good that Chinese buy it from Japan. And Japan produces it not only in Japan, but in China, USA and Europe. So some of those soybeans will make it into soy sauce made in China, but owned by Japan. Number one soy sauce in America (I’ve used it on everything since the 1950s.)

I’m not and haven’t been disputing that they are *there*. I constantly work with tools and equipment and the stuff that comes from China is still inferior. Perhaps this is changing, but for now, it’s the truth. Take for one single example Husqvarna. The pieces for the carbs (and other parts) on their chainsaws are made in China now. When they started doing that the quality that their saws were known for plummeted. I used to brag how they were the very best. Some ‘bright’ executive at Husqvarna decided that they could manufacture their saws cheaper using Chinese parts and then sell them for less to compete with lower end brands. He was right, but now the quality suffers and I no longer see their product as much better than any other brand since they are ALL (as you stated) made either fully or in part in China. I abhor that truth and the new reality our world has entered into with China now being the leader in manufacturing.
chinese quality is not a manufacturing problem. chinese quality is a purchasing problem
If the products are inferior or defective, preshipment inspection by the pruchaser would solve the problem by not allowing shipment.
Foreign buyers routinely inspect American goods being exported to maintain the desired quality

There is a good reason it is called the FREE Enterprise system.
It IS good news! This time next year I’ll be harvesting my first soybean crop and I’ll have a few hogs to butcher.
