As summer turns to fall, the medical community is ramping up for their annual fight against the flu.
One Wall Street firm thinks this flu season could be a bad one.
William Quirk and Alexander Nowak at Piper Jaffray use the number of flu cases from Australia and New Zealand to forecast the US season, and they say the numbers from the southern hemisphere point to a massive increase in sicknesses this year.
'The Southern hemisphere just went through one of the worst flu seasons on record (despite the vaccine targeting the correct strains)," wrote Quirk and Nowak in a note to clients. "Using the New Zealand influenza season (reinforced with Australia) as our basis (influenza-like illness cases +45% yoy), our analysis suggests a 31.9% rise in influenza-like illnesses (ILI) season/season for the United States."
This would mean that their average prediction for US cases is 943,356, which is the worst since the H1N1 pandemic in 2009. Last year there were 715,031 reported ILIs, and 2009 was the only year in a decade to crack 750,000.

I’ve always wondered how many people every year develop cancer because their immune systems have been diverted by being challenged by some vaccination that may only be a crapshoot in terms of its efficiency. I prefer to take my chances with the flu, although I’ve never had it.
Already had it. Sucked. Took me two days to recover (normally beat the flu in one). Have a dear friend who was sick with it for over a week and still is not fully recovered. And her immune system is STRONG.
Going to be a bad flu year.

Ugh. Winter before last, I had a flu shot. The vaccination site got all swollen up and turned hard as a rock. Was sore and stayed that way. - So, last winter, doctor avoided giving me a flu shot after I told him about that. - Just as well. They’d conjured up the wrong flu strain anyway. - So. Just as with antibiotics (I can’t take a full course of them because on about the last couple of days of the course, I start violently upchucking my guts out until every trace of the meds are up and out.) I’m sorry. Twinkie’s not dainty.
I’m with you. No way, No how, will I EVER get that shot. The last time I had the flu, my boys were still LITTLE, as in BEFORE school. Now, they are 21 and about to turn 18. Ain’t going there. Was at Rite Aid last year and one of the clerks asked me if I’d gotten my FREE shot, and I said NO WAY. He said, Ok, it’s not mandatory, and I replied ‘NOT YET’ and a couple people behind me laughed and agreed.
Cold baths....aaaggghhhh....I’ve tried rinsing with cold water....NOT pleasant.

There have been people on FR that said it is something about the shock to the system that gets things going in the body.
Whatever it is..between Vd3 and cold baths..no sickness for me.
I take a year-round flu shot. Via daily 5000iu pills of Vit D3. Don’t remember ever getting the flu. Or much of anything else either.

You might be interested in heppatitis vac...takes 2 shots over 6 mo......EVERY baby gets this vac now,,,,,And EVERY immigrant gets the hep. vac...the only group ...that is left out in the cold....is older middle class whites....the ones who paid for all these vacs...get this.........hep...is not very lethal....to people who get it young or are born w it....however.....if Innocent people....who were never exposed....Catch hep...from Immigrants.....THEN its very bad news.....now check this....1/3rd of chineese HAVE hep......1/3rd of arabs HAVE hep.....see any interesting problem here?....Wonder why there isnt a Gov. campain to vac..the middle class whites?.....Wonder why there is such a big ta-do about FLU vac?...when Hep. is MUCH more lethal??
