Damascus (AFP) - Russia and the United States have reached a "tacit agreement" on ending Syria's bloody crisis, a senior adviser to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said.

As the Pentagon warily eyes a Russian military build-up in Syria, Western intelligence sources tell Fox News that the escalated Russian presence began just days after a secret Moscow meeting in late July between Irans Quds Force commander their chief exporter of terror and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Fox News has learned Quds head Qassem Soleimani and Putin discussed such a joint military plan for Syria at that meeting, an encounter first reported by Fox News in early August. ...
The Quds Force is the international arm of Irans Revolutionary Guard, involved in exporting terrorism to Irans proxies throughout the Middle East including Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen. ...
Officials who have monitored the build-up say theyve seen more than 1,000 Russian combatants some of them from the same plainclothes Special Forces units who were sent to Crimea and Ukraine. Some of these Russian troops are logistical specialists and needed for security at the expanding Russian bases.
True, Putin and the Russians are very good chess players, while Obama would likely have a difficult time setting up the board for a game of simple checkers. But Putin and Obama share many of the same basic new international order aims. Both want a substantially weaker US and a stronger Russia. Obama has done plenty with his various missile defense and nuke deals to help pave the way for them to achieve their goals. He has shown them his "flexibility" on these matters.
Obama essentially butchered US policy in the Middle East for decades, and then decides that ISIS is the crisis to not go to waste to regain influence by deposing Assad by any means.
To think, if Obama wasn’t motivated by pure spite to crush Iraq’s gains under Bush, and back Allawi and pressure for him to be PM, there’d be 10,000 soldiers still in Iraq and the so-called caliphate would be a pipe-dream.
NAh...I think Assad will quietly go but they will maintain the government by appointing another Alawhite of Assads tribe so the government cannot fall into ISIS hands.
These negotiations BTW have been going on for weeks now between Russia and Assad...and even some of the terrorists groups. Putins been heading it for the most part....
Some of us said long ago that the US would eventually concede to Putins way because there simply is no other way to calm things in Syria.......Obama played his cards all wrong because he’s such an idiot....and this for so many times Europe, Putin and China have very little they will go along with him on...that’s why he’s sucking up now to the Pope.
Any defeat for Obama in the foreign policy realm is a win for America and the world at large!

This article says an “Assad Advisor”. What is this, the Syrian equivalent of “Bagdad Bob”, now to be known as “Damascus Bob”?
It certainly would not surprise me if Putin did that. It is pretty widely believed that he blew up an apartment building to justify going to war in Chechnya. Now I read that he is pressuring Belarus to allow military placements, something they do NOT want. The deviousness and viciousness of this man is not to be underestimated.
Not 'the world at large', just America's friends and allies. That of course does NOT include Russia or the ChiComs.
So our Iran deal is based on a Putin approach. Several thoughts: Russians have invented everything, so this is not new; Putin does not like the deal so says he does to inflame the US right against it.
Main US arguments against it are the 24 days advance warning Iran gets before inspections. I believe the justification is that even if things are moved they leave a tell tale radiation signature that the experts are experienced at detecting. Secondly, they would have to move a lot of stuff. Can this be identified by satellite day and night?? Something about defending someone we have a treaty with. I have heard this is boiler plate in all our treaties with all the countries we have treaties with. Anyone know the answer?
Noob defends Iran. IBTZ?
Too bad Putin’s father didn’t use a condom. If Putin does gain significant ground in ME and Eastern Europe, hope he has as much fun as Russia did in Afghanistan. I think that can almost be guaranteed. Russia doesn’t need the oil. Do they need the aggravation? Is this a Putin ego trip or a useful move for Russia?

Many Ukrainians believe you need look no further than the face of Viktor Yushchenko to understand Russias aggression against Ukraine.
Once smooth and ruggedly handsome, it still bears the scars from an assassination attempt when someone slipped dioxin into Yushchenkos food. ...

Yushchenko: Russia blocking poisoning probe
by Bonnie Malkin and agencies, September 12, 2007
"Mr Yushchenko, a pro-European politician who wanted to bring his country [The Ukraine] out of Russia's shadow, fell seriously ill on September 6, 2004 as he was competing in presidential elections against a pro-Moscow candidate, Viktor Yanukovich, now [2007] prime minister.
After months of tests in an Austrian clinic, it was determined that he had ingested a massive amount of the poison dioxin.
Although he survived, his face was left bloated and pockmarked, and he has had to undergo regular treatment to rid his body of the toxin.
In an interview with Le Figaro he said he believed the dioxin used to disfigure him was made in a Russian lab.
Mr Yushchenko did not directly accuse the Russian government of being behind his poisoning, but he did say he had 'practically put all the pieces together' and the attempt against him 'was not a private action'. ..."

We are stuck with the worst president ever at the worst time ever to deal with those questions.
Trumpinator should call himself "Putinator". Like more than a few here now, he is a FR Putinista. Some have been here for years doing what they do. How is that possible? Don't ask me.
In any event, Trumpinator/Putinator here can't come up with a single negative thing to say about the former KGB/FSB agent, Russia, and/or their past or present actions, including what's happening now in the Ukraine. For more than two weeks I've been after him to clarify.
Right, the same Assad that demanded the Golan Heights from Israel before ISIS appeared. Should ISIS disappear, guess what he’ll do again.
So what is meant by Iran’s “Death to America” and “Death to Israel”? Maybe we ought to not take it personally, like Rouhani recently said?
Well, Putin has been de jure leader of Russia and his new version of the USSR, called (for now) the Eurasian Union (at first the “Eurasian Economic Community”), since 2000. Not a stretch of the imagination to figure out that some of those who adhere to him have been on FR even since that time or shortly after.
Putin obviously is aware that Obama hates his own country and is ashamed of our history, but, at the same, he spits in his face time and time again. Maybe he feels at this point, perhaps after the missile defense and nuke deals?, that he no longer needs much more from him, or is simply not concerned about him one way or the other.
