Donald Trump is in an all-out attack against a surging new rival — and he just fired back

Real-estate developer Donald Trump is now frequently attacking a presidential rival he mostly refrained from criticizing in the past: Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida).

During a Thursday morning CNN interview, Trump hit Rubio as a "kid" in a wide-ranging critique.

He first bashed Rubio's credibility as a foreign-policy wonk when asked to compare their knowledge about Syria.

"Marco Rubio sits behind a desk sometimes and he reads stuff," Trump said, according to CNN's transcript. "That's all he does. I create jobs all day long. I'll know more about all of this than all of them put together and believe me, we'll have a winning strategy. If Marco Rubio is good, how come we're doing so badly?"

Trump went on to dismiss the 44-year-old senator's age.

"These guys don't know how to win," he said. "Marco Rubio, he's like a kid. He shouldn't even be running in this race, as far as I'm concerned. He's a kid."

Later in the interview, Trump again called Rubio a "kid" and criticized him for not deferring his candidacy to Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor.

"He's a kid. He has no right — I mean, frankly, he was very disloyal to Bush," Trump said. "Bush was his mentor. And everyone said he'd never run because Bush was his mentor. Well, the fact that Bush was his mentor didn't stop this young guy who is overly ambitious from wanting to run. Now Bush looks foolish and he looks like he's a very disloyal guy, frankly."

Earlier in the day during a "Morning Joe" interview, Trump also mocked Rubio for perspiring during last week's presidential debate.

???

Pretty hypothetical attacks now!

“OBJECTION: Trump doesn’t know anything! “
“OBJECTION: What are his positions on real issues?”

OK

So Trump published 2 position papers to the media and the public (more to come)

OBJECTION: He “probably” didn’t read them! Ergo he doesn’t know the issues! Probably! So let’s go back to OBJECTION 1 and 2”

mmmm.

Look, we KNOW he’s not your man because you jump into every Trump discussion, but can we please get some rational intellectual honesty in your objections to his candidacy?

Does a guy like Trump have a history of signing what he hasn’t read?

...but has Donald even read those position papers?

BINGO! I want to hear in-depth substance from the Donald's own mouth, demonstrating that he can think and speak on his feet in a serious interchange of ideas, and showing that he has a grasp of all the major issues. I have yet to hear that from him. Instead, it's just a shallow blather of "Look at my polls!" "Look at those losers!" and "Everything will be great!"

But I didn’t actually defend Trump. I just asked a question.

“Rubio was the first real tea party victory over the GOP e.”

No, he wasn’t. He was a perfect illustration of how the GOPE infiltrates races with false tea party candidates, and frustrates and defeats the tea party with lies and liars.

In this current primary there are numerous examples of false conservative candidates being pushed by the GOP. In fact that describes about 90%+ of them or more.

There is young and then there is young. Rubio reminds me of my oldest grandson - more boy than man. Cruz has a presence that is much older than his chronological age.

Trump counter punched Rubio after he attacked Trumps knowledge of foreign affairs. When you throw a punch be prepared to get one back.

Trump’s mask was pulled off a bit when he answered a question he didn’t even understand in the debate about a vote in the Senate on Syria where they didn’t go along with Obama’s plan and said Rubio and the other Senators on the stage should have supported it and did not even have the basic details to back up what he was saying - he was just spitting into the wind hoping it would sound good. Rubio’s follow-up made him look absurd, though Rubio did not attack Trump he just defended the position he took at the time. That’s what upsets Trump.

And Trump is calling Rubio a “kid” when he’s about the same age as his wife and exactly the same age as Ted Cruz, who he has praised.

Now come on dude, that's just patently absurd and demonstrably wrong. The establishment hadn't even noticed the tea party when Rubio ran. You're about 5 years off the reservation here. They didn't even get that strategy up and running until 2014 really. Maybe some in 2012. But it wasn't even on the radar in 2010.

I don't know what's so damned hard about looking at the good and the bad in a candidate. But it seems like 99% around here can't do that. Rubio did us all a huge favor. And he's been a turn coat since then. BOTH ARE TRUE. Why are people so insecure that they can't see objectively?

Yep!

What won’t be fun is discovering that during this period the media have subliminally ‘defined’ the Republican candidates. Gotten viewers to form an emotional picture of candidates that cannot be overcome by the candidate.
Happens every election but Trump seems the only one fighting it.

“Rubio stabbed the TEA party in the back. They supported him and he joined the McCain wing as soon as he got there.”

Fair enough. Conservatives and Tea Party types put him in office and the next thing we know he’s sidled up to McCain, Schumer and Graham on immigration, suckered into being their poster boy for amnesty. He’s repented and told us why, and you can choose to believe him on that or not. But I’m not sure how people can hold those types of things against Rubio and then ignore Trump’s past on abortion, gun rights, drugs, etc?

He often contradicts his “position papers” with his mouth. We know who “pens” what comes from his mouth. Do we know who penned the others? No, we don’t.

Ignore at your own embarrassing peril. If he somehow wins the Oval, I damned sure hope he follows his papers over his comments.

when the choice is Trump or Obama, then that’s relevant. Not until then.

And if that happens, I’m all in for Trump. If it’s Jeb or Trump, I’m all in for Trump. But I reject those are our choices today

Well of course, that was reasonable - up until this year. Silverleaf and about 80% of his supporters require no such evidence.

“Trump counter punched Rubio after he attacked Trumps knowledge of foreign affairs. When you throw a punch be prepared to get one back.”

He didn’t counter-punch anything. He just deflected the punch. That’s his thing.

Opponent: You don’t understand economics/foreignaffairs/legalpolicy/theconstitution/etc...

Trump: Well you’re funny looking!
