A couple of things up front.
I am a Ted Cruz supporters in word and deed$$$$.
I have no animus towards Donald Trump as some posters (trolls?) have suggested Ted Cruz supporters have.
I have expressed concerns about Trump but Donald has earned his place by solidly outperforming the other candidates with a message that connects, connects solidly with working people like the "Reagan Democrats" of which my father is one.
Trump is 'sucking the air out of other candidates' with media attention focused on him and his poll leads demoralizing supporters of other candidates.
Back in my teenage years (the 1970's) as I listened to radio preachers and conservative commentators, read "Human Events" and "National Review", I came to realize slowly but surely that an intellectual nerdy message would not connect with a mass audience.
"Saturday Night Live" was in vogue back then and I slowly came to believe conservatism needed a more popular presentation of its ideas with comedy and satire.
In spite of the nerdy "beltway conservatives", conservatism would have a chance, a chance because a 'great communicator' with show biz experience was on the stage.
What also helped was the sudden rise of evangelical Christian involvement in politics that would mobilize millions in successive waves between 1980 and 1988 to strengthen the Republican Party.
We were also 'lucky' have a new 'great communicator' named Rush come along to help hold and expand the grassroots support for conservative ideas.
Unfortunately, it was all for nought as the Republican Establishment hijacked the show with fake conservatism originating with Jeb Bush's father who told us 'read my lips, no new taxes'.
Jeb's brother would play with us using his moniker "compassionate conservative" and mobilizing our love of country and our military to fight a vain Vietnam style limited war on terrorism after 9/11.
Jeb is almost certain to follow in his father and brother's footsteps with passionate speeches and even confrontations with liberal media that will be played up by the 'RINOstream media' to the hilt.
He has no other choice to fight Trump with emotionalized fake conservative imaging.
Jeb Bush made a statement the other day saying he doesn't want this country to be 'multicultural', a sure sign of his intention to create what Karl Rove calls 'emotional wedge issues' or in other words fake issues dripping with deceit to take the initiative away from Trump. These fake issues will be pumped up by the pimps at Fox News and other GOPe media outlets.
Now back to Ted Cruz. The air in the room is running out and Ted had better step up to the plate with a powerful message that reaches beyond the intellectuals and even the religious voters, who aren't as committed as they used to be for the Republican Party.
Play to the working people, the "Reagan Democrats", the little people.
On Planned Parenthood funding talk the moral angle, then go on say something like this.
"The rich people like Planned Parenthood. Michael Bloomberg offered to pick up the slack a few years ago when the Susan G. Komen Foundation planned to cut off funding. I understand folks like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are into funding family planning. Our nation is 18 trillion dollars in debt. The taxpayers have given enough. Let the rich people out there that like Planned Parenthood pay for it, not the American people."
And onto religious freedom. How about a speech like this, Ted.
"Big corporations stepped in to shut down religious freedom laws earlier this year in Arkansas and Indiana. The CEO of Wal-Mart, Doug McMillon and the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook were among those trampling First Amendment freedom for those who disagree with gay marriage in this country.
Mr. McMillon cited Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton's notion of 'respect for the individual' in his opposition to a religious freedom. I think 'respect for the individual' should include respect for all individuals, Mr. McMillon, including those who have religious convictions about sexuality.
Another one of Sam Walton's basic beliefs was 'service to the customer' but if the customer wants to buy firearms, Wal-Mart decided recently that its not going to provide service if the customer wants certain firearms. Apparently Mr. McMillon not only has a problem with the First Amendment to our Constitution, but the Second Amendment as well"
Big corporations wanted Obamacare to cut their healthcare costs and the big company healthcare stocks soared because of Obamacare.
Big business also wants open borders to bring in cheap labor.
They need to be torn into.
Nigel Farage's description of the UK political system as 'corporatist' a collusion of 'big banks, big business and big government' needs to be on Ted Cruz's lips in discussing what the political system is like in this country.
Donald Trump tears into people, says controversial things, makes enemies and above all gets noticed.
I think Jeb Bush is now trying to do his own Trump imitation presenting a fake conservative image.
Ted Cruz needs to do the kind of speaking I presented earlier to stand a chance in the room that's running out of oxygen.
I await Ted's decision and am withholding any further financial support until he stands up and fights to steal the ball from Donald Trump.
and when Trump implodes Cruz wild have the structure in place for success...
Exactly! CRUZ is doing exactly what he has planned and they are devoting their energy to Trump. TED will be so well established by voting time that he can sit back and watch the losers. I said it before and I’ll say it again, I look for a tsunami of voters for TED CRUZ! Of course, that’s just my opinion.

Agreed. Cruz is doing some broken field running for Trump and I feel fairly certain that their 5 meetings were not to form a chess club. They have forged an alliance of some sort. Cruz is in a no lose position. If he wins the GOP nomination and gets to be President all well and good. If Trump wins he gets a plum job in the new Trump admin. Its all good.
Bring back jobs and stop the invasion. That is why Trump is ahead. For some reason these are considered “radical” ideas to GOPe and their media cheer leaders.
Right there. That is one of his problems. You exacerbate it as all Cruz supporters do. He is too far above the voters.
Do you really think that is what will help him win?
Too intellectual yes, but also not quite natural when he reacts to questions or when just dealing with the public - seems to be always 'on' like he's prosecuting a case.
I'd bet that he's a nice guy, but that doesn't come across at all. Sad.
Connecting on an emotional level would help him. Carson has the same problem. You need to appeal to the heart, not the brain. He can play to his core with his brain, but he needs to branch out from that.

Agreed - and the message that will play to them is not "I'll let millions of Third Worlders come in to underbid for your jobs."
Nigel Farage in the UK (United Kingdom Independence Party) has the best message in politics in the world today.
The UK is further down the road that this nation is going.
I want Cruz to speak to average Americans and their concerns about immigration cheapening the labor market, the cost of living, the job market for them, their children and grandchildren.
I do think there is a bigger picture out there including people who don’t agree with you and me and Cruz needs to reach the broader audience which is what Trump does with tough sharp statements.
Jeb will put on a show for us or at least try to in the coming weeks. I think we’ve seen the other Bushes fake conservatism and many won’t take the bait this time.
Ted needs to put on his show and with “funding issues” in DC I hope he does, but it will take more than that. Ted say must things that get attention and make the media and other GOP leaders and candidates mad.
Trump said Obama is waging a ‘war on Christians’.
and even more important most important is that it IS TRUE!
